[mkgmap-dev] Search index with mapsource generated gmapsupp?

Just an idea, I cant test it, as I havn't a running mapsource at hands. What happens, if you generate single img tiles with mkgmap, import that tiles to mapsource and build a gmapsupp from within mapsource? I would expect, but could be wrong, that the resulting gmapsupp would contain the global search index for roads. Has anyone ever tried this?
