Hi, Gerd, yes, I got a default description in the final IMG file, when I check the map properties in the device. Maybe not a splitter problem at all.

I'll work on this more carefully. Maybe there's something wrong in the build script.

template.args contains
mapname: 99990001
description: OSM Brazil South Region
...

If you get a different result, please send the log.
Or do you mean that mkgmap ignores the description field in template.args?
