Perhaps someone who is using that original option (I don't use it myself) would try this patch out and give us some feedback.
No feedback yet so I want to give some examples why this is a valuable patch. Using a whitelist is very useful for all maps that are interested in few tags only. This could be a map visualizing * the maxspeed tag * the lane tag * the maxweight, maxheight ... tag * all other QA-maps On my (lame) machine I tested an 1GB OSM file and created a maxspeed map: whitelist: 3 minutes no whitelist: I aborted after 25 minutes In future it might be interesting to preparse the style and the typ file to autocreate a whitelist file.
