Hi,
first problem is probably thej ava runtime parameter:
-xmx1000m should be -Xmx1000m to be correct, and better something like -Xmx1500m or higher if your system allows that.
Henning is right, --max-areas=1 tells splitter to re-read the input file for each area that it creates. This will be very slow.
