Thanks for the comments and stats Paul - everything sounds in line with what I'd expect which is good to hear.
Using todays great_britain.osm from the geofabrik mirror and with splitter-r39 I got
real 2m24.954s user 2m10.584s sys 0m3.760s Using splitter-r61 I got
real 2m15.107s user 2m3.852s sys 0m3.748s The previous warnings about a way being in too many areas have disappeared and the map seemed to compile without any errors but I can't say that I've tested it other than locally
