Thanks for the patch. I see that region is sometimes varying, e.g. here in Michigan, I get either MI or Mich (and even sometimes USA or US or Unites States of America).

Do you exactly where mkgmap gets the information from and would it be possible to have some "translation tables" to convert all OSM variants to one only region?
