Yes, you are correct.
I am going through the maps in my area now to look for gaps in mapsource and farmyard was the first on I had seen and I wanted to make sure I knew how the submitting patches worked.
The others I have missing so far are quarry and farm.
The mapping to 0x4e looked to be the best fit available farmyard & farm.
Quarry looks like it would be industrial.

Forgive me for asking, but would this not be more appropriate with
landuse=farm instead of landuse=farmyard?

According to the definitions in the OSM Wiki, "farm" is to be used for
crops and pasture, which is somewhat consistent with Garmin's 0x4e
(Orchard/Plantation) polygon. On the other hand, "farmyard" is
supposed to be an area with barns and houses with chickens and goats
running around. I'm not sure if Orchard/Plantation really fits for
this. ;-)

Compare the respective definitions in the Wiki:

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:landuse%3Dfarmyard

What do you think?

I've had the line "landuse=farm [0x4e resolution 18]" in my custom
polygons style file for some time, and it seems to work pretty well.

Cheers.
