Me too. Initially (early 2009) I built some maps without routing, and the Edge 705 would route along some really strange lines that did not seem to align with any map features.
That's probably routing using the basemap. My etrex vista hcx does that when it can't figure out a route (usually when I'm on a highway that's messed up in OSM).
