at some street-forks my Garmin is giving the hint "keep right/keep left", but for others the device gives no hint at all.

No hint is coming at the fork right behind the bridge over the railways.
Would the option "adjust turn heading" help?
Or can this behaviour be influenced by choosing another road class?
For what it is worth, there is also the through_route relation, which was introduced about 2 years ago: http://www.mail-archive.com/mkgmap-dev@lists.mkgmap.org.uk/msg05208.html I am using adjust-turn-headings in my map. For bicycle navigation, it is rather illogical. Sometimes I get a prompt in a T-crossing when leaving a residential road (which makes a 90-degree turn) to a cycleway. Sometimes, I do not get any prompt where I would expect it, if the cycleways are forking at a small angle. I have not played with the through_route relation. Marko
