my map reaches up to zoom level 16.
I just tested, and you are right, starting from a certain Zoom level the Basemap takes over if enabled. With my map the 50km Zoom still shows my map, no basemap visible. Beginning from 80km there is only the Basemap, and the device becomes reactive again.
