Garmin types

Perhaps this is not appropriate to post on the development list, but I am a seeking help in building a style file. Despite having looked at the style-manual and a great many other places I could not find even a partial list of the Garmin types without which I am somewhat at a loss. I have been using mkgmap for some time with good results, except that the default style seems to omit cycleways, and perhaps other features that I have yet to notice. I suspect that most people use the windows TYPViewer or TYPwiz so avoid needing an explicit list, but since I am in a Microsoft-free zone, that is not an option here. I did try to run both under Wine, but the initial attempts failed. So far the nearest I have found is the source code from imgsrc. I have also just checked out the mkgmap source code, and had a quick skim hoping to find a list there. I was also hoping to see the in-built styles somewhere which I guess that I have yet to find. I do think that the style manual really needs to include at least a partial list (presumably all reverse-engineered) or pointers to where this can be found. Can someone provide a link, or otherwise indicate where this is in the mkgmap source to save me time. Apologies for disturbing proper development work! ael

Determine the drive left/right

Hello, Is it possible to determine whether the highway is in a drive-left country? I like to place the highway-oneway arrows-overlay at the other side of the road if the highway is in a drive-left country? I see the option for the args file but don't see how it could help me, I read about locatorconfig but don't know if it is still used. I could maintain a country list myself and test against mkgmap:country, but if mkgmap already can give a warning if a tile contains both drive-left/right, maybe there is a more simple solution or there is already a hidden mkgmap:driveleft variable available ? performance best practice

Hi I have a question about improving performance (I'm very happy already, I think is absolutely fast enough, its just that I could improve by doing things differently) I assume the is_in() function requires extra calculations and lookups which may cost time as well calculating unnecessary rules (That could already be a wrong assumption) Maybe an expert could just say what would be better in general. No need to prove or test. I tried myself some things which actually did not make a big difference. For example I moved the rules for buildings to the top of the style and expected serious improvements, because buildings are the majority of polygons in the PBF But I gained only a little bit (3-5%? max) and even one out of 4 runs it was even a bit slower. So mkgmap must be very optimized already was my conclusion Question 1) 'unnecessary' processing rules Answer A Walk through 100 rules about highways when it's a waterway or railway and just wait for rule 101 Answer B Introduce an extra IF, which causes extra calculation itself but skips the 100 rules IF (highway = *) Then Highway 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-100 END Waterway = river [0x18 resolution 22] Question 2) Help mkgmap to avoid calculation of possible expensive calculations? Or is it already smart enough to not start the IS_IN() if "name = *" failed already Answer A waterway = river & name = * & is_in(natural, sea, any) = true [0x18 resolution 22] Answer B If (waterway = river) then name = * & is_in(natural, sea, any) = true [0x18 resolution 22] End if Thx, Joris Bo

Fenix

I have built a (non routable) Garmin map of Britain with MKGMAP. A friend has lodded it to his Fenix watch. The map displays correctly but if he starts an Activity with the map open the watch crashes with no message. Even a small map does the same. Any suggestions welcome! John Thorn

Errors with latest versions

I've been using a fairly old version of mkgmap and getting excellent results. However, I just tried to compile a map using several of the latest releases and keep getting errors. This is the run using r4306 of mkgmap.
