OT - UK C2C Whitehaven to Newcastle

Has anyone here got a plot of the C2C (http://www.sustrans.org.uk/default.asp?sID=1094747349296) which I could use with my Garmin or know of a reasonable online map of the route from which I could create my own plot. There are parts of it on OSM already but it's not complete and some of it is the MTB route and I was going to use the road route. Cheers Paul

Routing errors on Edge 705 with mkgmap r1010

The finland.osm translated with r1010 is about 10% smaller than the one translated with r1001. Alas, with r1010, the Garmin Edge 705 often aborts the route search with "Route Calculation Error." This seems to be more likely in bicycle and pedestrian routing modes, but I managed to get it in car routing too. Also, when I searched a bicycle or walking route from my home near Helsinki to Tornio or Oulu (spanning three or two map tiles), once the suggested route started by "flying" over streets. I initially suspected that this could be related to the smoothing filter, but after I downgraded to r1001, routing was still partially broken. My bad; I should have kept the old finland.osm around. The finland.osm from April 16 worked fine with r1001, but the one from April 19 doesn't. For what it is worth, the route search at http://maps.cloudmade.com/ works fine from "Sillitie" to "Rautatientori" in all 3 modes: car, bicycle, walking. It also works on the map generated on April 16 with r1001, but not on maps generated from the April 19 data with r1001 or r1010. Is there any way to check the routing information in the finland.osm (526,117,068 bytes)? Marko

polygon to point?

hello list, I have a question about mkgmap. Is there a possibility to get the information of an area in OSM converted to a point on garmin? This would be very usefull for example to find Car parks or camp sites or buildings tagged for example with amenity=restaurant etc. in the garmin menue. If such a feature does not exist, would it be possible to implement it with few effort? The best algorithm would be to take the geometric middle of the polygon and place a point there. The User should be able to customize which garmin type this point gets based on the tags of the polygon. The polygon should also be able to get a polygon type if it was used to create such a point. Issue drawing county boundary

I'm having an issue with the drawing of a county boundary in mkgmap. I've attached a screenshot from my Oregon 300 that shows the issue. The diagonal line in the middle is incorrect (the top right corner of the diagonal line is at 41.8623 -93.6999). The boundary looks correct in JOSM. Could it be because the boundary line is split across two tiles? I've been downloading the OSM data for Iowa using the xapi, splitting that up with spliiter (rev 28 currently) and generating the map with mkgmap (rev 1006 currently but I'm generating a new map with 1010 now. This is the bbox I use to download the OSM data: bbox=-96.723633,40.341797,-90.131836,43.549805 After splitting these are the tiles I end up with: a (38.49609375,-100.458984375) to (41.7919921875,-93.6474609375), size=1170389 a (41.7919921875,-100.458984375) to (44.47265625,-93.6474609375), size=991407 a (38.49609375,-93.6474609375) to (41.8798828125,-87.802734375), size=996288 a (41.8798828125,-93.6474609375) to (44.47265625,-87.802734375), size=869310 Also, the water areas aren't getting rendered correctly. Osmarender has a problem with them too but mapnik seems to get it right so maybe this is a data problem. -- Jeff Ollie

"RouteParam" in polish-format data files will be ignored ???

Hi, a few days ago i used mkgmap, just testing the influence of the "RouteParam"-Entry in the polish-format data files. My feeling was, that i can't see any difference in the routing behavior on my Gmap 60csx by changing the values of this entry. I had a look in the \trunk\src\uk\me\parabola\mkgmap\reader\polish\PolishMapDataSource.java and found a line "....else if (name.equals("Routeparam") || name.equals("RouteParams"))....". Could this cause mkgmap ignoring the entry "RouteParam" in polish-format data files ? "RouteParam" e.g. is the form, Gpsmapedit uses by saving data in polish format. In the case if mkgmap ignores the "RouteParam"-Entry by any reason, which values will be set for this entry instead?. cheers Gert Münzel

relation support in splitter ?

Hi trying to use relations to set the motorway ref from the relation. But tile splitter drops relations which cross too many tiles. Anyone working on it to support unlimited tiles? For a test I have hacked a script to use osmosis for tile splitting based on the areas.list from a previous splitter run. Strange enough the areas.list doesn't have the same coordinates as the bounds definition in the osm file. which one is correct? how much overlap is required for mkgmap to create the nodes for inter tile routing?

Mapsource error with route calculation

To Johann Gail Version 1006 produces files with smaller size but it seems something is broken for route calculation. I tried it with Ireland OSM map Mapsource aborts most of the time. Version 1001 works very well. Thank you for your work David
