This is not the ideal solution but works as an interim fix until the real problem is solved. The fundamental problem appears to be that very long lines (national boundaries, etc.) can be segmented such that some of the line's segments fall outside the map area that the line has been assigned to. By chopping the line into segments before the line is assigned to a subdivision, the problem is avoided. This can't be done for polygons and so very large polygons can still yield errors.

[PATCH] Display road name instead of ref in routing directions

The attached patch causes road names (instead of refs) to be displayed in routing directions. That is, you will get "Turn right onto Weseler Strasse (B58)" instead of just "Turn right onto B58". If you use a style other than the default, you will have to add a "add display_name = '${name} (${ref})'" statement to the appropriate lines in your style file. Example: highway=secondary {name '${ref|highway-symbol:oval} ${name}' | '${ref|highway-symbol:oval}' | '${name}'; add display_name = '${name} (${ref})' } The patch reads the display_name tag according to the style file, and writes it as a second label. This second label will be used for routing directions, at least in the case where a highway symbol is displayed on the map for the road in question. - In the patch, display_name is set in the style file to "Name (Ref)". You may adjust this to your liking. It may be expedient to simply display just the name without the ref in brackets. Since this may significantly improve routing directions in certain circumstances, I would appreciate your feedback. Some additional comments: - display_name may not be the best name for the style file tag. - The patch to StyledConverter.java simply prepends the display_name to the list of references. This takes advantage of the side-effect that the refs are all written sequentially as additional labels. It might be a cleaner approach to directly write the display name as a secondary label, but the patch was a very quick and cheap way of testing this concept. - The display_name will also be displayed in Mapsource when you cursor over the road with the mouse. hi ! i want to write a value (5.0) with a info-letter (h=) into a box like h=5.0 and when i use the following code in the style highway=* & maxheight>0 {name 'h= ${maxheight|subst: |highway-symbol:hbox}'} [0x01 resolution 12] in the new map not show the correct sign [h=5.0] the show sign is h=[0x07] - can anybody tell me right code??? regards Jan :-)

The original pickArea() assumed that all the areas to choose from had the same widths and the same heights. Unfortunately, that is not true and so it was occasionally putting elements in the wrong area. This new version simply iterates through the areas testing to see if the element is contained within one. It may be slower for large numbers of areas but at least it should get the answer right. Mind you, I don't think the number of areas is ever that large because the subdivision process just divides areas by something small like 2 or 4. So probably not really slower at all. Also, it now throws away elements that are outside of the whole area and emits an error message.

I would like to set up display name with lines in my style-file like highway=tertiary { display_name '${name}' | 'tertiary' } [0x04 ........] however currently this is impossible. Could someone adapt mkgmap to treat display_name processing like "name" processing? The reason for this is that adding lengthier text to name clutters up the map, but display_name will not be printed out, but only given for turn instructions and on the tool tip - which is exactly what I would need.
