Version 1503 was commited by markb on 2010-01-20 22:15:21 +0000 (Wed, 20 Jan 2010) Can now close small gaps in the coastline. Added generate-sea sub-option, close-gaps, to specify the maximum length (in metres) of gap that can be closed. Default behaviour is not to close any gaps. Gaps between coastline segments are closed with a straight line. A separate line tagged natural=mkgmap:coastline-gap is also generated so that you can see where the gaps have been closed.

The node and way members of a >relation should be defined before the relation in the .osm file. Otherwise, >mkgmap will pretend that the node or way is not a member in the relation. I am using splitter.jar to split my Italy's OSM file. Looking into the resulting file containing the ways wich belongs to the route I mapped, I cannot see the relations (wich are contained into the original file), so this is the problem! :o) Fabrizio

[PATCH v1] add close-gaps option to generate-sea

With all the excitement due to mp recently, I had completely forgotten about this little addition to the sea generation code I did a while back. It adds a new generate-sea option called close-gaps which takes a distance (in metres). Gaps in the coastline less than this distance, will be closed with a straight line. Not yet proven so please test. Typical usage: --generate-sea=polygons,no-sea-sectors,close-gaps=1000 Mark

Routing apparently broken because of overflow; more checks needed

The Nuvi user whom I have mentioned before reported that the routing between Tapiola, Espoo and Töölö, Helsinki was broken for some weeks until it started working again with yesterday's map. The only explanation that I can think of is that I shrunk the map tile to get rid of the TRE header corruption that prevented the gmapsupp.img from being generated. I suspect that there has been some overflow in the map tile before, but I just haven't noticed it myself. Would it be possible to add some more consistency checks, such as assertions, exceptions or error logging, to the mkgmap backend? Silent data corruption is not nice. Marko

[MP] Cannot join ways to closed polygons

This seems to be another bogus warning: 2010/01/19 09:26:47 WARNING (MultiPolygonRelation): Cannot join the following ways to closed polygons. MP-Relation http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/302408 I did josm 'http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=64.73925&lon=29.49075&zoom=18' selected the relation of the node and downloaded all members in the relation editor. Each 'inner' member (island) consists of a closed way according to the relation editor. (It shows closed loops next to the members.) The 'outer' member (coastline) consists of 7 ways, which form a closed loop. 6 of the ways are 500 nodes and the last one is 218 nodes. To me, the data seems fine. Marko

I've tried your suggestion, using JOSM to obtain a file with a couple of routes I created some time a go. Everything works pretty well, and I am able to obtain the map I want. I have to check the content of Italy's dump from geofabrik.de in order to see why it does'nt work as expected. Thank you very much! Fabrizio

Haiti OSM problem on Garmin 76CSx

Hi all, I am with Inveneo (www.inveneo.org) and arrive in Port-au-Princd tomorrow to begin deploying a wireless network in support of relief efforts there. I have successfully loaded the latest OSM on my Garmin 76CSx and it's fantastic, will be very useful there. However, when I turn off the unit, I get I constant low alarm tone. The only way to make it stop is to remove batteries. When I reinsert the batteries, the unit remains in a powered off state until I turn it on..after that it acts normally until I turn it off again. Any thoughts? You are right! I am using mkgmap from a long time to produce a map of whole Italy, and for this works pretty well. Now I want to use it to produce another map with routes only (for example the routes you can see here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=45.8835&lon=10.7006&zoom=13&layers=00B0FTF) in order to overlap it to my existing map. I'd like to have different maps for mtb routes, hiking routes, cycleway routes and so on, in order to enable/disable it on my Oregon when I need it. >Can you please clarify and post some browse URLs, Fabrizio? Bogus warnings about intersected ways in multipolygons

I am getting these for yesterday's finland.osm.bz2 and mkgmap r1499. I suspect that these are coming from the branches/mp merge: SEVERE (MultiPolygonRelation): Multipolygon http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/5828 contains intersected ways This relation or the containing points have not been changed recently. It looks OK to me. It would be nice if the message gave a point where mkgmap thinks that the ways are intersecting, like this: "Multipolygon .../relation/5828 contains intersected ways at http://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=60.1604765&mlon=24.9544602&zoom=18" (I am just picking a random node in the above building multipolygon). I still can't view the gmapsupp.img because of a NullPointerException: ...
