Bad tile around East London / Greenwich

Hi all, since some time my map has a bad tile around East London (Greenwich). I´ve checked earlier revisions of splitter and mkgmap, and decreased splitter´s max-nodes - without success. Problem seems to be in my style, which is based on OpenFietsMap. With the original OFM-style the error is rendered as well, but not with the mkgmap default style. signed maps / new device

Hello, my Colorado just broke (the Rock and Roller). I got offer from Garmin to replace the device by Oregon 700 or GPSmap65. Is it possible to use gpsmap compiled maps in any of these device? Or only Garmin signed maps are available for it? Thanks Marek

Transliteration question

Hi, I need some help regarding the transliteration filters. I would like to use them to transliterate cyrillic name tags (1251) to latin (1250). I have tried with: name=* {set name='${name|ascii:} '} but i get some weird results. For example tag: name=шума is translated into „SHUMA“ instead of expected „ŠUMA“ Same happens with other cyrillic character too – they are translated but not as I expect. I have set code-page=1250 and 1252 but no luck, always the same result. If I set the code page to 1251 I get cyrillic characters but this is not what i want. Obviously there is some transliteration taking place but in the way I expect, maybe I am doing something wrong? Are there any other settings beside code-page? I see there is a folder named ascii in /examples/chars/ with some .trans file, should I put there something else that determinates the transliteration or is this just an output from internal transliteration engine? Should I set country-abbr or country-name? How can I alter the transliteration rules? Thanks in advance for your answer

emergency_access_point

Hi all, "highway=emergency_access_point" (see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Demergency_access_point ) seems not to be included in our style: only in case of a line (instead of a point), there's an instruction: delete the highway tag. But it is a useful feature. In case of an emergency, you'll be asked: "where are you?" and then ... describing the place to the emergency service can be complicated: "on a cycle way next to the Rhine river a couple of kilometers south of the town of ..." is not exact enough. Unfortunatly, no emergency access point sign was directly at that place. Finding the name of a road leading to the place helped. So I think it could be helpful to know the reference number of emergency access points nearby. What could be a good Garmin id, so that it is searchable? Regards, Bernhard

Improper transliteration of Bulgarian text

Hello all, There has been a post on the Bulgarian section of the OSM forum that Bulgarian names are not correctly transliterated (https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=73331) According to these users, names show as question marks or if they show up the transliteration is incorrect. Here are some examples: Драгоман - Draghoman instead of Dragoman Драговищица - Dragovishchica instead of Dragovishticha Петърч - Pet?rch instead of Petarch I've found a document that shows what the correct transliteration of each letter is. It is complient with the transliteration act as of its last change in 2019. Note that it only applies to the Bulgarian language. Other languages may have different rules https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/… Is it possible to fix this issue without causing issues for other Slavic languages? I haven't investigated how your software works, but a possible solution could be to have a different set of rules for each country. Echange .typ-file in gmapsupp.img on Mac OS x 11 or newer?

Hi - is there any tool available to change the .typ-file in a gmapsupp.img on the Mac OS X Big Sur or newer? As gmt_osx is not gonna be updated to x64 - I wonder if there is an alternative. Or maybe could this function be added to mkgmap? I would imagine a call java mkgmap.jar --change-typ gmapsupp.img newtyp.typ (so remove all existing .typfiles in the gmapsupp.img and replace them with newtyp.typ - for gmapsupp.img consisting of several maps this would be more complicated - I do not feel that is needed). Plus maybe the option to join several gmapsupp.img files into a new bigger one (only important for very old devices). -- Felix Hartman - Openmtbmap.org & VeloMap.org

What is this error actually telling me.

SEVERE (global): The RGN section of the map or tile is too big. The maximum size is 16777215 bytes. Try splitting the map into smaller tiles or reducing the amount of information included in the map. With last year's versions, this worked. What is the fix? I osmosis combined the pbf files from geofabrik.de for north, central, and south America using osmosis, which appeared to have worked without problems. The pbfs were down loaded in the last two weeks. There were some roundabout errors from splitter. I get the error message above from mkgmap. Has anyone had to make changes to their TYP file to make things look better with the high-contrast map? I make maps where I draw a bunch of red lines on roads, they appear very muted and gray in the high-contrast map. Thanks, Craig
