Any option to include POIs as ways?

Hi all, Is there any way to transform (user-defined) POIs into short ways? It is quite helpful to see potentially hazardous barriers of any kind in advance on the GPS when cycling. Unfortunately, my device does not care for mkgmap's resolution settings when it comes to POIs and chooses by itself which types to display (apparently the normal behaviour of Garmin Edges). I would hence have to switch to high detail level and drown in POIs, thus making the map pretty unreadable. The numerous barrier POIs also pollute the search function - I suppose, nobody wants to be flooded with bollard entries when searching for nearby POIs. So I am thinking of a 'pois-as-lines' function which adds a 'way' for each POI - I could then choose to ignore barriers, railway crossings, or traffic lights in the points file but assign a non-routable line type in the lines files instead. POIs relevant for planing _and_ when riding (such as mountain passes) could be assigned both, a line and a POI, whilst others (e.g. restaurants) could remain ordinary POIs. CP1251/1253/1256 and more broken if used without --lower-case

Hi everyone - well this is a bit of a follow up of my previous message - but after I know the problem - I guess it's better to use correct title. I'm trying to create maps without using unicode of non latin using countries - and for many weeks I was quite uncertain why the did not work correctly. At least if I compile maps on windows - the resulting maps seem to ignore/break --code-pages somehow except if also --lower-case is given. Now I cannot really read/write cycrillic, arabic or hebrew - but all of these maps created without --lower-case actually seem to only write the code-page into header - but the actual name will end up being transliterated into latin1/acsii. This seems to be completely independant of style - I've put a link list with greece as example, it's not based on default style - but with default style the exactly same thing happens. a) https://openmtbmap.org/mtbgreece.exe (compiled without --lower-case) b) https://openmtbmap.org/mtbgreece_lc.exe (exactly the same but compiled adding --lower-case) c) http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/openmtbmap/odbl/mtbgreece.exe (without --lower-case but using codepage=65001 / unicode) (linux users - you can simply unpack the .exe - it's lzma packed, note for windows user - the registry entry created by each installer is identical - you can install to different folders though to check the maps - in Basecamp/Mapsource only one will be visible) Now a) will actually display in Cyrillic on some computers (e.g. windows 2007, windows server 2008) however not on windows 10 (for Basecamp, Mapsource or GPSMapedit). However the labels clearly are not really correct. Sometimes there are placeholder, sometimes simply wrong. I rechecked that b) is correct by also compiling a unicode version and checking the labels. Working Codepages without lower-case: Chinese, Japanese... (not based on any alphabet), latin1, 65001 Broken Codepages without lower-case: Russian, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Arabic,.... upper and lower case

Hi, I wonder are there functions to convert values to upper or lower cases? I can't find anything in the style manual. I'm doing a lot of comparison of name fields such as name~'[Aa]irport' and think it would be much more efficient to first copy the name to an upper or lower case version and then do equality matches instead of the regular expression matches (this would also detect any oddly capitalized names such as AIrport). mkgmap and MapInstall (OS X)

Every several month I render my own europe from geofabrik extract, with OSX 10.11.6 and a style-sheet based on openfietsmap. Mkgmap output is then converted to .gmap with JaVaWa MapConverter and viewed in BaseCamp. This time, with mkgmap_3972 and splitter_583, the resulting map seems to be ok in BaseCamp, but MapInstall rejects to send anything to the device - no tile of the map is selectable. I reproduced this failure with a fresh europe-latest a second time, while a smaller extract (Nordrhein-Westfalen) works. Downgrading to last used mkgmap_3820 solved the problem in MapInstall - the rendered europe-output is functional for the whole workflow. Is this a bug or something new in mkgmap I have to adjust in my style? Thanks for reading!

problem with osm2.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de/?

Hi is there a problem with osm2.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de or the process to create new files? there is only the sea_20170615.tar.bz2 in the directory and the files in bounds are from 20170608 thx Bernd

okay - well I left all .typfiles in latin1 anyhow. Simple latin alphabet in caps is supported in basically all code-pages worldwide anyhow. Also I suppose this bug is related to windows somehow - as opening single .img files in gpsmapedit will show latin only too - and I did not load any .typ file in gpsmapedit. I simply wonder if this is fixable or not - or better what settings/system this depends on. The really strange thing still is that cgpsmapper produced maps are not affected by this problem. Windows 7 / Server 2008 seems to be okay. Windows 10 seems be affected by this problem on mkgmap created maps. Codepage 1258 - Vietnamese - broken

Anyone knows why mkgmap is not able to create a map in codepage 1258?
