Hi Steve, thanks for the file. On my device nothing is visible at all. But that's kind of an information, too. There is no way to circle down bugs by simply skipping the extended part. Probably it is still some missing encoding. In the Isle of Man map (and others) there is much more information in the RGN header. Note the values in the "filling bytes". And there seems to be an additional section after the extended point2 section. The unknown value E3 can be E5, too. It doesn't seem to be a record size. I had a look at several sections. They are not completely random, thus there seem to be no "compression". However the patterns do not ring a bell for me. I copied a couple of them into a file and loaded it into my cloud share: https://www.magentacloud.de/share/s429h1z-r6 Maybe one of you has an idea what it's about. I also uploaded my current version of the test map with a single raster map tile. It does not show. Top left coordinate is N46° 57.768 E011° 47.484. Sadly I am stuck here and I am running out of quality time to concentrate on the topic. I also have to update QMapShack's decoding. While reading the mkgmap source code I noticed a lot of new stuff that is not covered by the decoder. Cheers Oliver

Hi all, I've implemented some basic checks to detect large flooded areas in the precomp-sea data in this new branch. A link to the latest binary (r4579 as of now) is a the bottom of the normal download page : http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/download/mkgmap.html - If PrecompSeaGenerator is used to calculate the sea data and the index check fails a warning is printed and the program ends with rc -1. - If mkgmap is used with a "dubious" sea.zip one or more messages about the problematic areas are written and the program stops with an ExitException unless option --x-check-precomp-sea=0 is given before the first input file. The index test is normally performed once for the whole planet, so it doesn't care about the actual tile boundaries. If e.g. only a part of Australia is flooded and you create a map for the UK you'll still see the errors. BTW: The current code (also in trunk version) doesn't support to use --precomp-sea with different values. Results are rather unpredictable. Gerd

Fix Sea Patch

Hi Gerd, Mkgmap used to contain some code that attempted to correct incorrect sea and land data where polygons were ordered in the wrong direction. This was removed some time ago because it didn't work properly. I have put together the attached patch that works much better and have been using it for some time. With the sea data that I use, which contains quite a large number of incorrectly ordered polygons, it manages to correct every error it finds. It won't be able to fix really gross errors, but providing most of the data is correct it will produce good results. Please review and commit if happy. Cheers, Mike

OT: Style to help mapping?

Hi all, with new Bing areal images I started mapping the area around my home town. This has an effect on my cycling activities as well, I am now much more interested in details reg. e.g. highway=track without tracktype or highways crossing small waterways (bridge or tunnel=culvert?) as well as different landuses like meadow and farmland. Does anybody know a public map style that hilites those details? Gerd

Tiles pruned in DEM map

I build several types of map (OSM, OSM+contour lines, maps for trucks and OSM+DEM) for the same area, using same input files. I split country.o5m with splitter and then use the same template.args output by splitter for all maps, just changing mapname for the different types of map. Given that, all resulting mapsets should have the same tiles, but tiles in DEM map are smaller than in the other types. They share part of the boundaries (usually two of them) with other types, but other boundaries are moved in, reducing displayed tile size. See attached screenshots. However, file size is the same (discounting *.DEM) for each tile in *.gmap subfolders. option : split-name-index is not working in mdr

Hi all, I use mkgmap r4589, create a map from canary-islands-latest.osm, with default style and following options : -split-name-index ; -index ; gmapi. The resulting mapset has a mdr-index file, but in (german version of) /Mapsou//rce ---> Suchen---> Orte suchen --->Stadt/, it is not possible to find the city 'San Miguel de Tajao' when i only type in 'Tajao' as a part of the name. It seems for me, that the option split-name-index ist not working for the mdr-Index. The used STYLEFILE is surely not the matter. It happens with each other style. In a second test I used only options : -split-name-index but not -index . The resulting mapset has no mdr-index, but i can search with /Mapsource -->Suchen--->nächstgelegene Orte suchen --> Städte/, in this case it is possible, to find 'San Miguel de Tajao' when i type in 'Tajao'. In my mind this is a error. It seems for me, that option split-name-index is not working for mdr-index. Regards thomas
