is_in() function for point on line

Hi Does the is_in() function should also work for a point on a line in stead of in a polygon? highway = turning_circle & is_in(highway, track, in_or_on) = true [0x641a resolution 24] It returns false for this situation where the turningcircle is attached to a highway = track. (mkgmap:cache_is_in_POINT_highway_track_in_or_on=false) Would there be another way to know if the point is attached to a highway = track rather then a for example highway = residential? default style points enhancements

Hi Gerd and followers of the default style Here are some enhancements to default style "points" - patch attached. I've been building up a list of changes to the default style for a while, and, with the current discussion about multiple POI for a single OSM object and the benefit of benches (I've just added this), it seemed like a good time to put forward these changes. Some of these derive from: http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2019q4/030097.html Some from other comments in this forum and the rest are from when I've noticed something wrong or that could be improved. Summary of changes: - for amenity={atm/bar/cafe} allow additional POI from other tags, eg shop=bakery or any others: leisure/tourism/sport/...=... - create POI 0x6605 for bench (Geographic>Land>Bench) - don't create POI for private parking - create parking POI for parking_entrance - if parking unnamed, use access tag if exists, giving names like "Customer parking", "Permissive parking"... - explicit shelter_type=basic_hut rather that trying to exclude bus shelters etc for Find>Lodgings - marina code from 0x4300 to 0x2f09; searchable as "Others" - POI for nature_reserve, even if not named - don't create POI for pitch if no name or sport - don't create POI for private swimming pools - don't create POI for unnamed cliff - add POI 0x6503 for named bay (Geographic>Water>Bay) - for platforms, just 1 POI when --add-pois-to-lines - name unnamed shops as category, regardless of category being matched - add, commented out, extra shop categories supported by some devices - add POI for shop=outdoor - for {camp/caravan}_site have BOTH 0x2b03 AND 0x2b05; 03 not shown on modern devices, 05 not shown on old devices - have both Food & Lodging POI for same point if appropriate - landuse=basin code from 0x650f (Geographic>Water>Reservoir) to 0x6603 (Geographic>Land>Basin) - water=reservoir as well as landuse=reservoir - add POI 0x650d for named water=lake/pond (Geograhic>Water>Lake) I'm happy to explain any of these change in more detail and, if anyone considers a particular change incorrect, provide a revised patch. Garmin types

Perhaps this is not appropriate to post on the development list, but I am a seeking help in building a style file. Despite having looked at the style-manual and a great many other places I could not find even a partial list of the Garmin types without which I am somewhat at a loss. I have been using mkgmap for some time with good results, except that the default style seems to omit cycleways, and perhaps other features that I have yet to notice. I suspect that most people use the windows TYPViewer or TYPwiz so avoid needing an explicit list, but since I am in a Microsoft-free zone, that is not an option here. I did try to run both under Wine, but the initial attempts failed. So far the nearest I have found is the source code from imgsrc. I have also just checked out the mkgmap source code, and had a quick skim hoping to find a list there. I was also hoping to see the in-built styles somewhere which I guess that I have yet to find. I do think that the style manual really needs to include at least a partial list (presumably all reverse-engineered) or pointers to where this can be found. Can someone provide a link, or otherwise indicate where this is in the mkgmap source to save me time. Apologies for disturbing proper development work! ael

performance best practice

Hi I have a question about improving performance (I'm very happy already, I think is absolutely fast enough, its just that I could improve by doing things differently) I assume the is_in() function requires extra calculations and lookups which may cost time as well calculating unnecessary rules (That could already be a wrong assumption) Maybe an expert could just say what would be better in general. No need to prove or test. I tried myself some things which actually did not make a big difference. For example I moved the rules for buildings to the top of the style and expected serious improvements, because buildings are the majority of polygons in the PBF But I gained only a little bit (3-5%? max) and even one out of 4 runs it was even a bit slower. So mkgmap must be very optimized already was my conclusion Question 1) 'unnecessary' processing rules Answer A Walk through 100 rules about highways when it's a waterway or railway and just wait for rule 101 Answer B Introduce an extra IF, which causes extra calculation itself but skips the 100 rules IF (highway = *) Then Highway 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-100 END Waterway = river [0x18 resolution 22] Question 2) Help mkgmap to avoid calculation of possible expensive calculations? Or is it already smart enough to not start the IS_IN() if "name = *" failed already Answer A waterway = river & name = * & is_in(natural, sea, any) = true [0x18 resolution 22] Answer B If (waterway = river) then name = * & is_in(natural, sea, any) = true [0x18 resolution 22] End if Thx, Joris Bo

Fenix

I have built a (non routable) Garmin map of Britain with MKGMAP. A friend has lodded it to his Fenix watch. The map displays correctly but if he starts an Activity with the map open the watch crashes with no message. Even a small map does the same. Any suggestions welcome! John Thorn

Errors with latest versions

I've been using a fairly old version of mkgmap and getting excellent results. However, I just tried to compile a map using several of the latest releases and keep getting errors. This is the run using r4306 of mkgmap. Answering my own question - I have realised that this is created by the --nsis option, which I had mistakenly got in my config file, and is used by the NSIS installer rather than the maps themselves. However, it seems illogical to me that this should not use the contents of --license-file.
