License issue in mkgmap & splitter source: GPL-2 (v2 only) incompatible with GPL-3 (v3 only)

Several source files are licensed under the GPL-2 which is incompatible with GPL-3 source in splitter. To combine GPL-2 code with GPL-3 code, the GPL-2 code needs to be license under the GPL-2+ (v2 or later), or dual-licensed under the GPL-2 (v2 only) or GPL-3 (v3 only).[0] The mkgmap source files in question: src/uk/me/parabola/mkgmap/filters/MustSplitException.java src/uk/me/parabola/mkgmap/reader/MapReader.java The splitter source files in question: src/uk/me/parabola/splitter/tools/BitReader.java src/uk/me/parabola/splitter/tools/BitWriter.java test/func/ArgsTest.java test/func/Base.java test/func/SolverAndProblemGeneratorTest.java test/func/lib/Args.java test/func/lib/Outputs.java test/func/lib/TestUtils.java test/uk/me/parabola/splitter/tools/TestBitReader.java Steve & Gerd, can you relicense the code to GPL-2+ (v2 or later) or dual license those files as GPL-2 (v2 only) or GPL-3 (v3 only)? Data / routing issue - Vancouver, BC ferries

Greetings all, I have been lurking on this list for several years now and first want to congratulate all for such a fantastic project. Very, very nicely done! But I have run into an issue with the maps I create of British Columbia and am unable to determine whether it is a data or mkgmap issue. The problem is that ferries coming out of the Tsawwassen ferry terminal to/from Vancouver island do not get routed. For example finding a route from Kamloops (BC interior) to Victoria, the route on my Nuvi 255 shows a 1400 km diversion north to the coastal town of Bella Coola, then a ferry to Port Hardy on the north end of the island, then south to Victoria. This routing is suggested whether I use maps I've generated myself or ones downloaded from garmin.openstreetmap.nl. It is interesting, however, that other routing engines (GraphHopper, OSRM and Mapzen) route over the ferries as expected... Kamloops direct to the Tsawwassen terminal, then ferry to the island. I question, however, whether the ferry routes are mapped properly as just west of the Tsawwassen terminal is a node where all routes join and branch http://openstreetmap.org/node/660826272 . A similar node exists east of the Swartz Bay terminal on Vancouver Island - 323308217. The wiki documentation for tag route=ferry states in part "The ferry route must not branch in the water, so it must always be drawn to the ferry dock. This is important for routing to work correctly." So when the wiki says that it is important for routing... whose routing? Clearly this is not a requirement for these other engines, but is it the case for us? If we need data in the form as that described in the wiki, then I will contact the Talk-CA list and see if there is someone local who can fix it... i.e., recreate it as per the wiki standard. Otherwise, if the wiki is outdated and the data are acceptable, then could there be a problem here, or could I just need an adjustment to something in my args list? Find Address - No cities

I have a strange problem. With a particular split of 'british-isles', one map from the split causes the list of cities in the Find>Address function to be empty. Find>Address does still find streets, but not this is not very useful when cannot limit by City first. Excluding this particular map but leaving everything else unchanged, the city list is there and works as expected. The list of cities in Find>City is correct. The same problem occurs on an old build of mkgmap (r3694). Splitting with a reduced --max_nodes, the problem goes away. Also I think some minor changes to my style has caused the problem to come and go. I', using Etrex Legend, --gmapsupp --index --route and various other options. Any ideas about how to debug this? style file reader error

Hi, I seem to have found a bug in the style file reader - it does not appear to work correctly if the first term is a not equals term. For example, with the following two rules only the latter one correctly triggers: highway!=bus_stop & name~'(?i)ferry terminal' {echotags 'Trigger 1'} name~'(?i)ferry terminal' & highway!=bus_stop {echotags 'Trigger 2'} returning as an example PolygonPOINode generated from 100221082 [amenity=parking, mkgmap:admin_level7=Pembroke Dock, mkgmap:area2poi=true, name=Ferry Terminal] Trigger 2 I think it is failing to match when there is no highway tag at all. If you start with highway!=* as your first term in a rule, the style reader throws it out as not valid with "Cannot start rule with tag!=*" and I think this may be related. Regards, Mike

Strange long distance routes on Nüvi

I use a gmapsupp.img generated with a reduced style derived from the default mkgmap-style . Routing for cars works fine, if the routes are short. But if I try to plan a long journey (1000 km). The route calculation gets stuck for some minutes at lets say 80 percent and finally comes to a result. But the resulting route is something that looks like a concatenation of beelines. My assumption is, that Nüvi contains an overview map of the world (or Europe) that I cannot disable. Could I replace it using --tdbfile in mkgmap? But the option mentions MapSource, I tried to avoid MapSource for now. Routing works fine, if I disable Motorways (or toll roads), but the route seems to be somewhat inconvenient. Perhaps my questions is a little bit outdated, since there are good smartphone based apps for navigation. But I love my old fashioned Nüvi. This leads to the next question: Is there a chance that there will be TMC information compiled into mkgmap maps sometimes in the future? As far as I understand, nobody knows where it is stored inside encrypted proprietary maps. Best regards Bodo

NSI error

Am using nsi script generated by mkgmap and have noticed that it doesn't seem to like spaces in a mapname ie !define MAPNAME "Topo Devon 2017" the error in red when running the script : macro "MUI_Page_Licence" requires 1 parameter(s) passed 3 Presumably it refers to the 3 words separated by a space. I can't simply change the mapname to "Topo-Devon-2017" as it expects some of the files to be named in this way as well. Strange code in mkgmap?

Hi there, examining the code of mkgmap i found some strange lines. In /mkgmap/src/uk/me/parabola/util/ShapeSplitter.java Line 330: This is redundant? In /mkgmap/src/uk/me/parabola/mkgmap/osmstyle/housenumber/HousenumberGenerator.java Line 1537+1538: This was already tested 6 lines above, so this cannot occur - Dead code? In /mkgmap/src/uk/me/parabola/mkgmap/filters/ShapeMergeFilter.java Line 554: This is a String comparison, shouldn't *n1.equals(n2)* be used instead?
