Would it be possible to have the mkgmap:set_unconnected_type=... differentiate between conncected on both sides for lines and only connected on one side? For example I would like to delete all service=driveway shorther than 100m length if they are connected only on one side to another routable line - if they are in between I would like to keep them. a new DEM-File Option

Hi, i have find with a lot of "trial and error" a algorithm to create DEM-Files for a Height-Profil. You can find the description (in german) at https://github.com/FSofTlpz/Garmin-DEM-Build/blob/master/DEM-Daten.pdf With this data we can for example draw a track in mapsource or basemap and we at once the Height-Profil of our track. At second, the map looks like better. I have create a experimental program called BuildDEMFile :) to build this files. Experimental means, the encoder is for exploring the algorithm but not for speed. You can find the programit at https://github.com/FSofTlpz/Garmin-DEM-Build. It is possible, that there minor bugs, but i have it successfull testet for 2 different germany-maps. I have a wish: Can you in mkgmap insert a new option, for example --dem with path to DEM-files, and include these files in the join-process for the IMG-files? So far only joined the LBL-, NET-, NOD-, RGN- and TRE-File. Also should be set the dem-flag in TDB-File. If so, i can build the DEM-Files with area-size from the splitter-file areas.list. I hope thats the same like in the TRE-Files? That would be a little bit easier then my fiddly way: split the ready IMG-files, build the DEM-files and then join the files to new IMG-files. How to install maps with DEM onto a GPS

Hi All I offer one possible solution for installing a DEM map on a GPS using Garmin's Mapinstall. Its not ideal but it works once you take account of the following: After much frustration, I think I have resolved the problem with Mapinstall. It seems that Mapinstall ,more often than not, detects an issue with one of the files created using mkgmap's -gmapi option. I have not tried to work out which one but I can say that ,so far, all gmaps created using Javawa Mapconverter have formed a successful basis for uploading dem maps to a gps device. 1) Create your Mapsource/Basecamp map using mkgmap Ignore the gmap if created by mkgmap drag your mapfolder onto Javawa's mapconcerter to create a new gmap - place this in c:\programdata\garmin\maps 2) I use Franks excellent program to create & add dem files 3) I add DEM file sizes to the .tdb file - I have presumed that all dem file sizes require a maximum of 4 bytes - I have not encountered files which require 5 bytes - please let me know if is a DEM file which needs 5 byte. 4) I have not had to add or replace separate bytes in the tdb file to make it work apart from setting the DEM flag 5) If some maps have no dem then no dem height or ref to a DEM is added to the tdb 6) I now use Mapinstall and upload map to my GPS. This is one solution which now seems to work. As this is rather long winded, you don't really want to do this each time you update a map! crash in BinaryOp

Neither BinaryOp nor ExpressionReader were changed in this handover, so this looks like a bug that was already there. Regards, Mike

Hello Frank, Thank you for you answer, my temporary solution was to create hgt files filled with 0 (it works like a charm). I discovered GetFilename() generates SRTM filename in lowercase whereas they are usually in uppercase. David

Changes on BuilDEMFile source code between 2017/10/19 and 2017/10/26 introduced an error. Latest version cannot produce DEM files for « La Réunion ». The program seems to ask for some SRTM that does not exist. It should need only S22E055.hgt and S21E055.hgt but with version from 2017/10/26, the program stopped instead to continue (it requires s22e056.hgt, s22e054.hgt, ss22e055.hgt, s21e056.hgt and s21e055.hgt). Hi, excuse me I would understand why if I have a polygon (building) with a node on the external line the rendering of the tag refer to all the polygon result attached to the external node....
