POI indexing, problem with label 0x2800

Hi, POI types 0x28xx are usually treated as labels, there is no icon for these POIs, only label text. CGPSMapper doc describe these POI as "Region name". I'd like to use these POI for house numbers. Problem is, that mkgmap indexes labels! It results in big increment of img files and index file. I doubt these objects are searchable, probably all this indexing is only a waste of space. I have found code in MdrUtils.java, which adds labels to index. I think this can be removed. And maybe you can add POIs in range 0x64xx - 0x66xx, they probably are searchable. There is an increase in LBL subfile, I haven't found code responsible for this. There seems to be a section LBL5 called "POI index", maybe labels goes there too? -- Best regards, Andrzej

max-nodes in splitter

Hi, I tried to read all the docs and forums about max-nodes, but I still have questions left: * Does the splitter print an error when max-nodes is too large, or is it unpredictable and will it only fail on the GPS device * Do tiles with more nodes mean higher or lower draw performance on devices, or not matter at all Thank you for your help Jakob

Is smoothness=bad unpaved?

Hi list, On the Garmin OSM forum there is a discussion started whether we should consider smoothness=bad as unpaved. In the default rules it is treated as unpaved. What do you think? Unable to build splitter

I'm not sure if this is a splitter problem or OS problem but I thought I'd ask here first as I think that this problem is likely to have started with r570 (http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2017q1/025847.html) The following has been tried on both openSuSE 13.2 and 42.2 I checked out the latest splitter into an empty directory, ran "ant dist" and received an error regarding junit.jar. Multipolygon-Relation checks in mkgmap

Hi all, I'd like to rewrite the code in MultiPolygonRelation so that it tolerates more mp-rels. For example, the relation http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/2199651 produces these warnings: WARN: uk.me.parabola.mkgmap.reader.osm.MultiPolygonRelation f:\osm\rel2199651.osm: Some polygons are intersecting. Potentially it does not belong to this multipolygon. The inner way touches the outer way in one point. My understanding is that this is correct, mkgmap should not complain about it. OK? Gerd

road-speed

Dear all, maybe you could help me, as I did not find hints on the internet. I wonder if it is possible to have different road_speeds for different vehicles in one map. Background: Currently I have one map for car use on my device and a second one for vacation when travelling with the caravan. The second map has lower road_speeds as I'm not that fast with the trailer. To save tiles and memory, the second map is quite reduced (less points, also less minor streets, tracks, etc). For compiling and memory reason I would like to merge the speed aspect into one map. Would it be possible to have something like highway=* & type.equals("motorcycle") { add mkgmap:road-speed = '-2' } An additional aspect to consider would be that this command would be needed multiple times, as from my experience it is not possible to do "-2" in general. Also there would be an issue with minor roads, that have a low road_speed, as it might get negative. Any hint is greatly appreciated. If it is not doable at all, tell also ,please. Thanks, Michael

Hi Gerd LineSizeSplitterFilter and PolygonSubdivSizeSplitterFilter both contain the logic: public static final int MAX_SIZE = 0x7fff; ... maxSize = Math.min((1<<24)-1, Math.max(MAX_SIZE << shift, 0x8000)); and then maxSize is used to limit the standard Area bounds of the item. Won't this will cause unnecessary cutting at low res map levels? Ticker

style file reader patch

Hi Gerd, I have found that the style file reader does handle non ASCII characters properly. With the following line in my points file: amenity=cafe & name~'[Cc]af[eé]' {echotags 'Description as name'; delete name} I get an error: Error in style : error : (points:142): Bad character in input, file probably not in utf-8 This happens whether or not I save the points file as UTF-8. The attached patch fixes the problem. Can you please try it and commit if it is OK (you may want to change the RuntimeException)? Thanks, Mike
