Parameter order for index search - any impact?

Is there any difference in how index is build depending on parameters order? If I use: --housenumbers --index --gmapsupp I get a 97888256 byte file If I use: --gmapsupp --index --housenumbers I get a 97884160 byte file but index search seems to work the very same. Thanks, Enrico

Confusing "Turn right" instruction

Hi, yesterday I ran into a confusing "turn right" instruction https://i.imgur.com/u4mfpmQ.jpg This might be a problem with the data, as the data in OSM does have quite an angle to merge two oneway lanes, where in reality you go straigt: https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/5698558 The only hints that this is not a right turn is the relation above, and the turn:lanes on the previous road part. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/239362184 Is there any "hack" you can apply to handle such situation, or is it too complicated to deal with and just an unfortunate situation where the representation of streets in OSM is not perfect. Mapsource crashes while calculating a route

Hi, I have observed crashes for some time. Mapsource 6.16.3 indicates a bug in module MPL_MAP.CPP. Basecamp reports an error or goes into infinite loop. Now I have extracted minimal source data, which creates faulty map. Removing any road or even a crossing point restore routing. Bug exist in mkgmap r2815, r2857, r2889, r2975 and r2976. Map created by mkgmap r2795 works correctly. I'm attaching here files to reproduce problem: mkgmap.bat - batch, which I have used to create the map, test-a.pbf - very simple OSM source data, route.gpx - short route, which causes a crash in Mapsource. -- Best regards, Andrzej

Garmin map smaller than JOSM .osm save

Hi I have used JOSM to download a section of the OSM along a railway corridor doing 4 saves into the same layer, then updated the data and saved the lot as an .osm file. I did it this way because the area was too big for one download using JOSM. But only a portion is made into a Garmin map for my eTrex, the last of the 4 sections saved. The dropbox image shows the size as JOSM sees the osm file when reloaded and the gmapsupp.img is the red rectangle https://www.dropbox.com/s/hfeo5zi48wxapl8/JOSM_save.png?dl=0 Is this the expected result? I wanted all the .osm saved file to be made into the gmapsupp.img I have tried this process several times with the same result. Again on address search in latin countries

Folks the index branch has been merged with main since sometime and the experimental --x-split-name-index works for me as documented but I still don't get an optimal user experience. Example, there might be multiple streets named with the same word (example in Padova, Italy: Via Dietro Duomo, Piazza del Duomo, Galleria Duomo): if you type "Duomo" the expected behaviour is to have the gps to show the list of available matches, while in the current implementation three lines with just the word "Duomo" appears and you don't know which one to pick. Without the --x-split-name-index option, adding the below to "inc/address" produces imho a better result overall for latin countries. Please evaluate if to embed some of the logic in "--x-split-name-index" option to set the appropriate labels with the full name of the street, which if I understood correctly is what the navigator shows. IMG files getting corrupted?

I want to post a problem I'm hoping someone can give me advice for. I download the state where I live (Indiana) from Geofabrik and Splitter splits it into four parts. For a long time when I used Mkgmap to create a gmapsupp.img file, it worked perfectly. However, lately when I perform the process, part of the file doesn't display on my Edge 810. What it boils down to is one or more of the four parts of the original file that Splitter created are not displaying. The parts that do display, display perfectly. My GPS shows a crosshatched background where the missing data should be, so it "knows" there should be something there, but for some reason it is unable to display it. All four of the individual IMG files that Mkgmap creates when it runs display correctly in GPSMapEdit, as does the finished gmapsupp.img file. But there is something about it my GPS doesn't like. I upgraded to the latest versions of Splitter and Mkgmap, but it didn't help. I ran a comparison on the file on my PC and the one on my GPS, to make sure the file is being copied correctly, and the files compared okay. Windows reports no errors on the SD card in my GPS, where the file is located. I have repeated the entire process, including re-downloading the data from Geofabrik; no luck. I have to conclude there is something in the data that Mkgmap is choking on. Is there a Mkgmap option that might fix the problem? Advice? Mark Bradley

make the gmapsupp visible/invisible in Basecamp

Hi developers, is there an option to make the gmapsupp visible/invisible in Basecamp? At the moment its always visible, but this is a bit annoying (since one has to wait some minutes until some hundred MBs are copied). Thanks for your ideas, Joern

eTrex Vista

Hi, sorry to ask this here, but I have a device question. Does someone here use an ancient eTrex Vista (non c, non cx, non Hcx), and knows if mkgmap files can be transferred via serial port and be used on it? All information is highly welcome Jakob
