Mapsource crashes while calculating a route

Hi, I have observed crashes for some time. Mapsource 6.16.3 indicates a bug in module MPL_MAP.CPP. Basecamp reports an error or goes into infinite loop. Now I have extracted minimal source data, which creates faulty map. Removing any road or even a crossing point restore routing. Bug exist in mkgmap r2815, r2857, r2889, r2975 and r2976. Map created by mkgmap r2795 works correctly. I'm attaching here files to reproduce problem: mkgmap.bat - batch, which I have used to create the map, test-a.pbf - very simple OSM source data, route.gpx - short route, which causes a crash in Mapsource. -- Best regards, Andrzej

Minimum size for a "_link" to process "destination"

Hi mkgmap developers, I noticed that when a "_link" containing the tag "destination" (trunk_link, for example) is too small, mkgmap doesn't preprocesse the exit (set dest_hint). For example, if this "_link" has only 8 meters size, no destination nor exit hint is generated by mkgmap for this specific "_link". Could you tell me the "_exit" minimum lenght considered by mkgmap to process destination hint? Thanks. Best regards, Alexandre Loss

patch for "part" filter

Hi, I have tried to use substitution filter "part" and have found, that it worked differently, than I expected. Some operation results in adding trailing separator while others don't. Some filters return null, others return "", which breaks evaluating formulas with "|". I have attached a patch, that should change behavior of following filters: "A1;A2;A3" "part:;<3" -> old "A3;", patched "A3" "A1;A2" "part:;<3" -> old null, patched "A1;A2" "A1" "part:;>-2" -> old null, patched "A1" "A1;A2;A3" "part:;>3" -> old "", patched null "A1;A2" "part:;<-2" -> old "", patched null I have attached example data and style for testing the filter. I'm not sure, what would be preferred result for following filters: "A1" "part:;<3" -> result null or "A1"? "A1" "part:;>-3" -> result null or "A1"? Both, current version and patched, return null. [Patch v1] change process-destination option

Hi all, please read carefully: Up to now the process_destination option is a bit problematic because it may add the tag destination=* to an existing OSM element, and I think this is not good, all tags added by mkgmap should have the mkgmap: prefix. As Greg pointed out this causes problems for style authors who want to create special hints depending on tags like destination:street . The attached patch changes the method like this: 1) the tag destination is not changed by mkgmap 2) Instead the special tag mkgmap:dest_hint is now set to the destination string that was found in one of the tags listed in this code snippet: tags.add("destination"); tags.add("destination:lanes"); tags.add("destination:lanes:forward"); tags.add("destination:lanes:backward"); tags.add("destination:forward"); tags.add("destination:backward"); tags.add("destination:street"); (BTW: This is also the order of evaluation in mkgmap searches since r3673, of cause forward/backward are checked depending on the direction of the way) For style authors this means that they have to 1) change all rules with mkgmap:dest_hint=true to mkgmap:dest_hint=* 2) change the rule that produces the hint to something like this: mkgmap:dest_hint=* { set dest_hint = '${destination:ref|subst: =>} ${mkgmap:dest_hint|subst:;=> |subst:/=> }' | '${ref|subst: =>} ${mkgmap:dest_hint|subst:;=> |subst:/=> }' | '${mkgmap:dest_hint|subst:;=> |subst:/=> }'; } Basically all places where "destination" was used were changed to mkgmap:dest_hint. I am aware that this could cause trouble, so I've added a check that complains when the style contains an expression mkgmap:dest_hint=true . A binary can be found here: http://files.mkgmap.org.uk/download/295/mkgmap.jar With the default style this produces the same img file as r3673. Please let me know if you see problems with your style. style parsing problem since r3671

Hi, since mkgmap r3671 the following statement in my lines-file is marked as error: railway=* & (gauge ~ '\d*;1435' | gauge ~ '1435;\d*') & building!=* & area!=yes & tunnel=yes [0x11e11 resolution 19] The error message is: Error in style: Error: (lines:196): Invalid rule expression: ((($gauge~'\d*;1435')|($gauge~'1435;\d*'))&(($building!=*&($area!=yes&($tunnel='yes')))&$railway=*)) Could not open style maendle Number of ExitExceptions: 1 Omitting the term "& tunnel=yes" makes the parser happy, but that's not what I want. Rearranging the statement to this form railway=* & building!=* & area!=yes & tunnel=yes & (gauge ~ '\d*;1435' | gauge ~ '1435;\d*') [0x11e11 resolution 19] solves the problem. overview map creation

Hi all, while writing this answer http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/img-limit-tt5870924.html#a5870939 I wondered in what cases mkgmap calculates the overview map. I am not sure why, but it seems that it does that whenever it is told to process any input file (OSM or polish format). As I wrote in my answer you can use --no-tdbfile to switch off this, but that also prohibits the creation of the work files named ovm_*.img. I see one case where this can cause problems even with a "normal" style: If you want to calculate all tiles for the whole planet first and combine them later into individual maps you probably will run into the size limit when mkgmap finally calculates an overview map for planet. Sure, one can ignore this error as all other img files should be okay, but I think it would be better to create the overview map only when it is really needed, means, when --nsis or --tdbfile is given. Did I get this right? What is your opinion? Gerd

Version mkgmap-r3674 was committed by steve on Fri, 25 Mar 2016 The mdr1 index must be sorted in map order. Normally files are in the correct order to start with. However if they do need to be reordered, then the existing code does not work correctly. Remove the existing complex code and now just sort the map command line arguments after they maps are compiled and before the index generation is started. osm combiner error

Hi, On the osm forum someone reported this error with OSM combiner (http://www.openfietsmap.nl/news/osmcombiner) (mkgmap r.3654) http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=30632 What does Unsupported major.minor version 51.0 mean? ------------------ Unfortunately the new OSM Combiner 1.8 did not solve the problem for me. I dowloaded a fresh set of osm_generic_tiles.zip files for the Netherlands, Belgium and France and tried to combine them with OSM combiner 1.8 but consistently get an error message (see below). All steps up to "Start" work, the final step fails and gives the error message. I use MacOS 10.11.3 with the latest Java installed and allocated 5gb of memory to Java, disk space is plenty. What am I doing wrong?
