rendering waterway=drain as stream

Hi, On the osm forum someone noticed that waterway=drain is rendered as river (0x1f), better is to use the same line as stream (0x18). Hi, I get a MapFailedExceptions with mkgmap-r3706: Time started: Tue Dec 13 14:16:13 CET 2016 The following styles are available: ski 0.1: Ski style Overlay style displaying ski resorts, pistes… Found one style in /home/steph/osm/styles/ski/ finished check-styles Number of MapFailedExceptions: 287 Number of ExitExceptions: 0 Time finished: Tue Dec 13 14:23:47 CET 2016 Total time taken: 454658ms It's an overlay for ski resorts in France. But no problem generating France map: Time started: Tue Dec 13 13:26:20 CET 2016 The following styles are available: default 0.77: "Default style" modifié. Style assez lourd destiné à être utilisé plus spécialement dans les zones densément étiquetées. Adéquat pour la randonnée et le routage longue distance. Precompiled sea tiles are w/o names - how to add the names?

Hi developers, I use the precompiled sea tiles http://osm2.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de/sea/latest/sea.zip as mentioned on the mkgmap download site. Unfortunately they doesn't contain the sea names. How can I ad the names (at least in English, local languages would be nice) to my maps? Thanks for your ideas, Joern

Splitter r483 in refactoring2 branch

Hi all, I think it is ready for a first public test . Improvements: 1) Faster (esp. with large files), mostly because of an additional thread for OSM reade. If you are interested, please play with the max-threads value. On my machine with a core i5 I see better results with max-threads=6 than with the default ("4 auto"). 2) Splitting planet with a rather small max-nodes value like 800000 now stores ~ 41000 of possible 65535 entries, with r442 I saw > 58.000. If you reach a value of > 60000 in one of the "number of area dictionary entries: xxxxx of 65535" please contact the list. This limit may be increased to ~ 2^31 but with a larger memory footprint. 3) Some optimizations in the memory footprint of the custom maps may allow higher max-areas values. I've changed the default for max-areas from 512 to 2048, this should work with typical PCs. See http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/download/splitter.html Gerd

Why does splitter remove (only) the created_by tag?

Hi all, I've noticed that splitter silently removes the "created_by" tag since version 8. I don't see a good reason for that, on the other hand we may also implement a filter to remove more tags. JOSM has a hardcoded list of tags which are silently removed when you edit an object. The JOSM source file OsmPrimitive.java contains this list: "created_by", "converted_by", "geobase:datasetName", "geobase:uuid", "KSJ2:ADS", "KSJ2:ARE", "KSJ2:AdminArea", "KSJ2:COP_label", "KSJ2:DFD", "KSJ2:INT", "KSJ2:INT_label", "KSJ2:LOC", "KSJ2:LPN", "KSJ2:OPC", "KSJ2:PubFacAdmin", "KSJ2:RAC", "KSJ2:RAC_label", "KSJ2:RIC", "KSJ2:RIN", "KSJ2:WSC", "KSJ2:coordinate", "KSJ2:curve_id", "KSJ2:curve_type", "KSJ2:filename", "KSJ2:lake_id", "KSJ2:lat", "KSJ2:long", "KSJ2:river_id", "odbl", "odbl:note", "SK53_bulk:load", "sub_sea:type", "tiger:source", "tiger:separated", "tiger:tlid", "tiger:upload_uuid", "yh:LINE_NAME", "yh:LINE_NUM", "yh:STRUCTURE", "yh:TOTYUMONO", "yh:TYPE", "yh:WIDTH", "yh:WIDTH_RANK" Do you think that splitter should contain such a filter for tags? What is --series-name ?

Hi Does anyone have any opinion on what series name means? I've never thought it made sense. After looking at the gmap format, it seems to me that it is associated with the product id. So a better name would be --product-name ..Steve

Size checks in splitter

Hi all, years ago we added a check in splitter r251 to make sure that it doesn't write extremely large tiles. See http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2012q1/013611.html and http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2012q4/015707.html In short: The problem is that the precomp-sea option will add a huge amout of sea polygons to such a tile, another problem is that the bounds option loads a huge amount of data. I've now noticed that this check might not be useful if you use splitter to split a large file into a few smaller tiles, esp. the whole planet with num-tiles=2. I'd like to skip this check when a) --num-tiles is used b) --max-nodes value is large, e.g. higher than 10.000.000 Another option would be to add a new option like --skip-size-check. What do you think? Gerd
