[Patch v4] sharp angles

Hi all, attached is v4 of the patch. Changes: 1) The option --x--fix-sharp-angles is gone. 2) A new option --x-ignore-sharp-angles can be used to disable the code that enlarges sharp angles 3) The option --cylcle-map is now documented (not in detail, as I still work them out). Please try if the option improves routing in cycle maps. It allows changes up to 112° instead of only 45°. 4) known errors were fixed: - use sum of speeds - take into account that values maybe rounded when calculating the new heading(s) A binary is here: http://files.mkgmap.org.uk/download/282/mkgmap.jar Gerd

default style: highway=path means unpaved?

Hi all, I just noted that the default style sets the mkgmap:unpaved flag for many cycleways, e.g. http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/276070019 I see intensive discussions about wrong use of highway=path and/or wrong interpretation of that tag. The rule in lines is (highway=bridleway | highway=path | highway=track | highway=unsurfaced) & surface!=* & tracktype!=* & smoothness!=* & sac_scale!=* { add mkgmap:unpaved=1 } My understanding is that highway=track is likely to be unpaved, but highway=path doesn't suggest that, esp. not in combination with bicycle=designated. Does anybody have a better solution? Gerd

Problem with too large shields on streets with ref and name

Hi Could it be, that this rule is a little bit too much for some devices? highway=trunk { name '${ref|highway-symbol:hbox} ${name}' | '${ref|highway-symbol:hbox}' | '${name}'; addlabel '${name} (${ref})' } The rule ist the same as in the default style, but i break the line to make it better readable for me. My nüvi 2445 shows annoying large shields if a street has ref _and_ name, my O650 don't do this, it shows the shieldonly on streets without name. See the attached screenshots from both devices. [Patch v3] sharp angles

Hi all, attached is v3, only small changes: 1) the message "maybe duplicated OSM way " was printed too often 2) with --x-cycle-map, change the headings at junctions with only three different arcs so that angles of 90° or more are created. If I hear no complains I'll commit this patch on monday, probably without the --x-fix-sharp-angles switch. I am still trying to work out in what case the Garmin routing algo prefers a detour, so maybe I find more improvements later. Ciao, Gerd

with level 14 - level 16 is there a way i can construct a map for viewing on the computer , that goes down to level 14 , in 1 file .. If so how as i get msgs now that it is spannig file on gmapsupp building Stephen

The other profiles are much less affected here. e) no difference at all in the maximum routable distance. Once a strange degradation (again same place as yesterday): Routing is alway correct on old map - but times are much slower. Old map nearly always had 1min Only on Driving profile this bug happens (but no other - even Motorcycle is fine). Still 1min. However all other profiles (except walking) are between 26-28seconds. Overall I would say it's a clear improvement (but yeah - those additional ways I guess would still be better). Well too strange I still got some differences... I did not know and wondered why I found so little difference. So more results in 1-3 hours - back to testing now. In 4 out of 10 long distance routing examples I tried in Basecamp - the result was better. In 4 it was the same, and in 2 it was slightly worse. So overall it is a modest improvement - but I would have hoped for a bit more. Still - clearly and improvement.
