Mapsource crashes while calculating a route

Hi, I have observed crashes for some time. Mapsource 6.16.3 indicates a bug in module MPL_MAP.CPP. Basecamp reports an error or goes into infinite loop. Now I have extracted minimal source data, which creates faulty map. Removing any road or even a crossing point restore routing. Bug exist in mkgmap r2815, r2857, r2889, r2975 and r2976. Map created by mkgmap r2795 works correctly. I'm attaching here files to reproduce problem: mkgmap.bat - batch, which I have used to create the map, test-a.pbf - very simple OSM source data, route.gpx - short route, which causes a crash in Mapsource. -- Best regards, Andrzej

process-exits vs process-destination

Hi all, is there a way to combine the features process-exits and process-destination in a single style ? Based on my experience process-desitnation does a marvellous job when entering a motorway ( does it also work with also trunk roads ? ), while process-extis is perfect when leaving a motorway or trunk road. For instance the roundabout here http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=47.89665&lon=10.64805&zoom=17 has two exits towards the B12. Routing from the "Sudetenstraße" going North (maybe towards Augsburg) I would like the Garmin device to announce "5 th Exit - B12 (München)". On the other hand routing to the South (maybe Kempten) it should announce "2nd exit - B12 (Kempten)". Using process-exits this does not work, it's only "5th Exit - B12" resp. "2nd Exit - B12". I would have to use process-destination instead to get the desired messages displayed. Coming home from the trip, routing from the B12 towards "Sudetenstraße" I would like "exit to the right - Exit Kaufbeuren". Using process-exits this works perfectly. Would I use process-destination I would get "exit to the right towards B12 Verteilerring" or even "exit to the right towards Sudetenstraße" a really useless announcement as the sign on the trunk road reads "Kaufbeuren / Neugablonz / Mauerstetten". So this is why I would like to have an option that combines the functionality of process-exits and process-destination. Do you see any way to achieve this in one single style ? Ciao, Franco

OT: tool to split gpx file ?

Hi all, does anybody know a simple tool to split a gpx track file with e.g. 50.000 points into pieces of 2000 points, giving each one a name like xyz-part-001.gpx, xyz-part-002.gpx etc? Or is there another way to avoid long load times when using such a large gpx track on the Oregon 600 ? Gerd

index problem camp_site

Hi, On the OSM forum someone found out that on some Garmin devices tourism=camp_site and tourism=caravan_site [0x2b03] cannot be found. See http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=31093 http://forums.gpsreview.net/discussion/29752/campsite-pois-do-not-show-on-g… On the device's map they are rendered ok, in Basecamp and Mapsource as well and can also be found. But on an Oregon, Dakota and GPSmap 64 they are not listed. On my Openfietsmap I use 0x2b05 for camp_site, and this poi has not this issue (appears in the search menu of my Oregon). Is this a Garmin device bug or mkgmap index problem? Should we use 0x2b05 in the default style for camp sites/caravan sites?

process-exits and Oregon 600

A few weeks ago I upgraded from Oregon 450 to Oregon 600, and since then exithints are not shown anymore. Instead the generic name of either the 1st or 3rd bit of the exit is displayed (I'd still have to check which of both).My mkgmap settings are unchanged and the exits are correcetly named in the img files, so it seems like a device problem. Any ideas anyone how to fix that? Regards, Micha

[Patch v1] improve handling of exits

Hi all, attached patch changes mkgmap so that a) the process-exits and process-destination options are also checking highway=primary roads and also those cases were a link divides into two or more further link roads. b) the exit_to tag on a highway=motorway_junction node is ignored when the road is e.g. a highway=trunk and all connected roads are trunk_links. Typically, the exit_to tag contains then a list of hints, but it is not clear which hint is meant for which way. I've uploaded a binary based on r3598: http://files.mkgmap.org.uk/download/266/mkgmap.jar @Dave: Please note the changes in the default style. It would be great if you could test this patch and maybe suggest a better description of the two options. Gerd

Splitter problem: losing a track segment

Hi guys, I'm facing a problem in one of my maps, that is probably might be happening in other places where I didn't see yet. The problem can be seen in the figure below taken from MapSource. There is a gap in a track on the border of the tiles: [image: Imagem inline 2] So I started to analyze the problem step-by-step till find that the problem was generated by Splitter (last version). To simplify your analysis, I edited my .osm file before running Splitter and remove all objects (nodes, lines, poi, etc.) not related to the problem, leaving only the line where the problem happens. And this is the cause of the lost segment. I'm running Splitter in the following way: java -jar splitter.jar --split-file=93352150-Ribeirao_Preto.list --max-areas=1024 --mixed=true --keep-complete=false --resolution=15 --output=xml 93352150-Ribeirao_Preto.osm The above .list file is attached. multiple US highway shields on one highway

Hi everyone, I recently added the US highway shields to my maps. My solution works pretty well and I'll happily make a patch for the default style if people are interested. For example, this section of highway has the ref tag set to "I 275;I 96" meaning that it's both interstate I275 and interstate I96. http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/124433753 I tried setting the highway-symbol filter twice on one highway but it didn't work. It this expected work or does the garmin format only allow one shield per highway? Does anybody have any ideas on how I could get multiple highway shields to display when a highway is part of multiple highway references? Thanks, Ben

Memory Full - with newest mkgmap versions appearing again

I've got now 3 reports in - that with my maps the memory full bug is back again (remember around 3 years ago - when the more mkgmap maps (or non NT garmin City Navigator) with index you sent to your device - the more often/likely it would appear. Well - it seems some mkgmap change is causing it again. So far I got reports from Montana 600 and Oregon 300 users - all on newest firmware. Anyone else having probs - getting feedback? Any idea what change in mkgmap caused it? (seems garmin did not really fix it correctly but just worked around it with their firmwares).
