Hi all, the lines file in the default style contains this rule: # Mop up any unrecognised highway types highway=* & highway!=proposed & area!=yes [0x07 road_class=0 road_speed=0 resolution 23] I've changed it to highway=* & highway!=proposed & area!=yes { echotags "mop up" } [0x07 road_class=0 road_speed=0 resolution 23] to see what it does and it "mops up" all kings of problem cases, e.g. mapping errors like highway=turning_circle or removed highways with the highway=razed I think the default style should not add these ways as routable, if at all. It also catches many highway=platform and highway=rest_area Most of these ways are areas, but don't have the area=yes tag. I am not sure why the "mop up" rule would ignore them when the area=yes tag exists. Gerd

Change Brazil to Brasil...

Dear mkgmap developers, Is it possible to alter the LocatorConfig.xml, changing the spelling of Brazil to Portuguese? Brasil with "s" instead of "z". I.e.: <country name="*Brasil*" abr="BRA" streetBeforeHousenumber="true"> <variant>BR</variant> <variant>BRA</variant> </country> I'm doing the change manually ever new version, but if you can change in the source it will better for sure. how to tag a "highway" that doesn't exist?

Hi all, I used taginfo http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/highway?filter=ways#values to find frequently used highway=* tags on ways which should be ignored by mkgmap. Please review the attached patch, if I here no complains I'll commit it on Monday. Gerd

[Patch v1] remove obsolete spaces from tag values

Hi all, attached is v1 of the patch for the issue discussed here: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/obsolete-spaces-in-tags-tt5856850.html It implements option a) : Remove spaces before style processing. If I here no complains I'll commit this next Monday. Remarks: 1) Unfortunately it doesn't really improve address search in Canada. In my test case some more addresses are found, but a lot of "found no plausible road " messages remained. Reasons: 1) Abbreviations used in names, e.g. "Av Jackson" vs "Avenue Jackson", "Pl Gabriel" vs "Place Gabriel", etc. Some of them might be fixed using appropriate style rules, see attached patch canada_addr_v1.patch 2) Other spelling differences, e.g. "Rue Mozart" vs "Rue de Mozart" "Boulevard Saint-Laurent" vs "Rue Saint-Laurent" 2) Since r2906 obsolete spaces in the values of tags mkgmap:label:1..4 are removed (after style processing). This was added with the mergeroads code. @WanMil: Maybe this code in StyledConverter.elementSetup() is obsolete with the new patch? don't route through highway=construction

Hi, A while ago a user reported that they were being routed through a closed highway. The highway in question was marked as highway=construction. What's the best way to ensure that you don't get routed through the path that's created in the default style when a way is marked as highway=construction? I'm not able to test this easily because the highway is now back in service. I've attached a patch that adds access=no to the highway=construction rule. Is this a good way to prevent routing through highway=construction roads? Thanks, Ben

obsolete spaces in tags

Hi all, see also http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/address-search-in-Canada-tp5856816.html I see several ways to implement the preparation proposed by Andrzej. I think about implementing a method that removes a) trailing + leading spaces from tag values and b) all doubled spaces within the tag value Examples: " abc" -> "abc" "abc " -> "abc" "abc def" -> "abc def" " x y z " -> "x y z" Now, this can be done a) with all (evaluated) tags before style rules are processed pro: style rules do not have to care about these cases contra: extra spaces produced by the style actions are not catched b) after style processing pro: style can handle these special cases (e.g. use echotags), extra spaces produced by style actions are handled contra: style rules may not match, e.g. if an element has the tag highway="primary " c) two times a) + b) I think option c) is the best, presuming that it doesn't involve an unacceptable performance impact. I am not sure if anybody uses these spaces willingly? Do we need an option to configure this? Gerd

address search in Canada

Hi all, due to bad CanVec imports many (> 10000) streetnames in addr:street tags have duplicated spaces, so that the name is not exactly like that of the matching road. Example: "Rue Principale" instead of "Rue Principale" appears 8470 times. "Rue Notre-Dame Est" instead of "Rue Notre-Dame Est" appears 614 times. I am not sure why there is no bot to fix this, but I think it would be okay to remove any duplicated blank from road names while processing them with mkgmap? Gerd
