addr:place and housenumbers

Hi all, I have an idea how to support the evaluation of the addr:place tag. I first thought this can all be done with a few rules in the style, but it seems that the boundaries don't contain the hamlet boundaries, so it is difficult to find the matching names for streets and nodes. Idea: Step 1: - collect all nodes with addr:housenumber=* and addr:place=* and addr:street!=* - collect all nodes with place=hamlet and name=* - collect all unnamed roads Step 2: For each hamlet, calculate the area (bbox or maybe a circle) containing the corresponding addr:place nodes (the place=hamlet nodes should help in case that there are two or more hamlets with the same name in one tile) Step 3: Find out the unnamed streets in these areas. Give them the name of the hamlet and interpret the addr:place tag in the nodes like mkgmap:street (using the normal housenumber routines) Is anybody interested in that? Gerd

[PATCH] Fix hyphen-used-as-minus-sign in man page

[PATCH] Fix 'completly' typo

How to display highway shields with numbers only

Hi list members, I'm relatively new to mkgmap. I have a question about displaying shields on highways. Table 4.4 in the Conversion Style Manual shows highway shields displaying numbers only, which is what I would like to achieve. In Table 4.3 (the list of substitution filters), the description for the highway-symbol filter says that the filer "Prepares the value as a highway reference such as 'A21' 'I-80' and so on. A code is added to the front of the string so that a highway shield is displayed, spaces are removed and the text is truncated so as not to overflow the symbol." The description does not explain (from what I can tell) how to remove the alphabetic characters, leaving only the numbers. I've tried several possibilities of the filter without success. Where I live, there's a motorway called Interstate 70 which is labeled "I70" in OSM. I would like to create shields with only the number in the shields, similar to the example in Table 4.4. How do I do this? Mark

Hi all, attached is a 1st try to implement the evaluation of the addr:interpolation tag. In some areas this is heavily used, so it really improves address search. addr-interpolation-v1.patch <http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/file/n5826523/addr-interpolation-v1.patch> The implementation is straight forward: before style evaluation - check for tag addr:interpolation, make sure the value is one of "odd","even", or "all" - if the way has two or more nodes with addr:housenumber=* and addr:street=*, the way is a candidate for the interpolation and a tag mkgmap:node-ids is added to the way to be able to find them later after style evaluation: - for each pair of housenumber nodes : calculate the positions of the interpolated housenumbers and generate a node containing the housenumber and streetname I am not sure what to do with partly invalid data, e.g. a way with addr:interpolation=odd in combination with more than two nodes, the last having an even number. The current implementation will generate odd nodes for all valid pairs in that way. Effect: When searching for an address, it is more likely that you will not be pointed to a much higher or lower number. I did not notice an increase of img size. I assume in a few areas the additional calulations may require more CPU or memory, but the effect should be rather small.
