Mapsource crashes while calculating a route

Hi, I have observed crashes for some time. Mapsource 6.16.3 indicates a bug in module MPL_MAP.CPP. Basecamp reports an error or goes into infinite loop. Now I have extracted minimal source data, which creates faulty map. Removing any road or even a crossing point restore routing. Bug exist in mkgmap r2815, r2857, r2889, r2975 and r2976. Map created by mkgmap r2795 works correctly. I'm attaching here files to reproduce problem: mkgmap.bat - batch, which I have used to create the map, test-a.pbf - very simple OSM source data, route.gpx - short route, which causes a crash in Mapsource. -- Best regards, Andrzej

process-exits vs process-destination

Hi all, is there a way to combine the features process-exits and process-destination in a single style ? Based on my experience process-desitnation does a marvellous job when entering a motorway ( does it also work with also trunk roads ? ), while process-extis is perfect when leaving a motorway or trunk road. For instance the roundabout here http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=47.89665&lon=10.64805&zoom=17 has two exits towards the B12. Routing from the "Sudetenstraße" going North (maybe towards Augsburg) I would like the Garmin device to announce "5 th Exit - B12 (München)". On the other hand routing to the South (maybe Kempten) it should announce "2nd exit - B12 (Kempten)". Using process-exits this does not work, it's only "5th Exit - B12" resp. "2nd Exit - B12". I would have to use process-destination instead to get the desired messages displayed. Coming home from the trip, routing from the B12 towards "Sudetenstraße" I would like "exit to the right - Exit Kaufbeuren". Using process-exits this works perfectly. Would I use process-destination I would get "exit to the right towards B12 Verteilerring" or even "exit to the right towards Sudetenstraße" a really useless announcement as the sign on the trunk road reads "Kaufbeuren / Neugablonz / Mauerstetten". So this is why I would like to have an option that combines the functionality of process-exits and process-destination. Do you see any way to achieve this in one single style ? Ciao, Franco

Why is there a code-page in the .typ-file? And - is there a code-page a gmapsupp.img?

Hi Everyone 1. Switching to unicode I ask myself If I should also change the typ-file to code-page=65001 - is this only for the case that you want to label a line/poi/polygon using unicode characters - or should any .typ-file that is "bundled" by a unicode map, also be unicode? Does anyone know a garmin unicode map that has a .typ-file? 2. I couldn't notice any change on compiling a gmapsupp.img regarding a code-page set. Is there actually a code-page for a gmapsupp.img? multi-word street search

Hello! I've a problem regarding street search. In Poland (and I suppose few more countries also may have this issue) person-named streets can have two forms - long one: Miroslawa Dudka or short one: Dudka there is no standard for tagging such names in OSM. Problem is that Garmin/Mapsource search function is matching names from the beginning of the string, so if I enter "Dudka" it will find all streets named "Dudka" but not "Miroslawa Dutka". Do you have any idea how can I deal with such issue? best regards Michal Rogala

Occasional header corruption in gmapsupp.img

Hi all, once again I stumbled over a really weird problem: In rare cases mkgmap produces a gmasupp.img that shows up as "Map data (c) OpenSt" in the list of maps on my Oregon 550. It seems to be triggered by the OSM-inputdata although the OSM-data itself is OK. The problem occurred on a DACH-extract with my bikeroute-highlights-overlay style a few months ago, now I have it with a ITALY-extract and my housenumbers-overlay style. Usually I build 6 different gamapsupp.img files for 6 different styles from the same tiles. Only one of them, if any, has the buggy header. The problem usually disappears after an update of the OSM-data, just to reappear a few days or weeks later. I kept 2 versions of the ITALY-extract for reference and with those I can 100% reproduce a faulty gmapsupp.img. I often update the versions of splitter and mkgmap I use for building the maps. mkgmap-r3356 and splitter-r414 still produce the same bug. The problem assembling a test-case is that the ITALY-extract has a size of 1.2 GB . When I remove just one tile from the split extract the gmapsupp.img is OK. I cannot produce a small testcase. Can't split into big tiles

Hi, I would like to split Germany data into 5 tiles. I have added contour lines and sea area to OSM data but this probably is not important. My file has about 200M of nodes. If I split with max-nodes 50M, then I get about 50 tiles, which is wrong. If I split with num-tiles=5 then bounding polygon is ignored and I get tiles with boxes like: 63240002: 2176512,-935424 to 2796288,355584 # : 46.702881,-20.072021 to 60.001831,7.630005 This is useless for me, since I need true bounding boxes for tiles. I have used splitter r412. Any solution for this problem? Temporary I'm going to clip data with osmosis. -- Best regards, Andrzej

relation associatedStreet

Hi, I can't find references in mkgmap code to relation associatedStreet. Is it supported? http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Relation:associatedStreet This relation bounds houses to streets. I think it should be used by mkgmap to add housenumbers to streets. Relation can't be described in style, since it is defined basing on members role instead of tags. Example of use could be following: <node id="101" Lat="12.31" Lon="4.56"> <tag k="addr:housenumber" v="5"/> </node> <way id="12"> <nd ref="200"> <nd ref="201"> <tag k="highway" v="tertiary"/> <tag k="name" v="Long Street"/> </node> <relation id="3"> <member type="node" ref="101" role="house" /> <member type="way" ref="12" role="street" /> <tag k="type" v="associatedStreet" /> </relation> Can mkgmap find that house number 5 belongs to Long Street? -- Best regards, Andrzej

Hi There was a problem last week where certain posts were not received by list members that had Hotmail or Yahoo email addresses and this eventually resulted in all such email addresses being disabled due to bounced posts. I have now re-enabled everyone that was affected so they should receive mail from the list again. It is no longer possible to sign up or post to the list with a Yahoo email address. If you are already subscribed with a Yahoo email address, you should still receive posts, but if you want to post, then you should do so from a different email address. Substring returns full string
