Mapsource crashes while calculating a route

Hi, I have observed crashes for some time. Mapsource 6.16.3 indicates a bug in module MPL_MAP.CPP. Basecamp reports an error or goes into infinite loop. Now I have extracted minimal source data, which creates faulty map. Removing any road or even a crossing point restore routing. Bug exist in mkgmap r2815, r2857, r2889, r2975 and r2976. Map created by mkgmap r2795 works correctly. I'm attaching here files to reproduce problem: mkgmap.bat - batch, which I have used to create the map, test-a.pbf - very simple OSM source data, route.gpx - short route, which causes a crash in Mapsource. -- Best regards, Andrzej

process-exits vs process-destination

Hi all, is there a way to combine the features process-exits and process-destination in a single style ? Based on my experience process-desitnation does a marvellous job when entering a motorway ( does it also work with also trunk roads ? ), while process-extis is perfect when leaving a motorway or trunk road. For instance the roundabout here http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=47.89665&lon=10.64805&zoom=17 has two exits towards the B12. Routing from the "Sudetenstraße" going North (maybe towards Augsburg) I would like the Garmin device to announce "5 th Exit - B12 (München)". On the other hand routing to the South (maybe Kempten) it should announce "2nd exit - B12 (Kempten)". Using process-exits this does not work, it's only "5th Exit - B12" resp. "2nd Exit - B12". I would have to use process-destination instead to get the desired messages displayed. Coming home from the trip, routing from the B12 towards "Sudetenstraße" I would like "exit to the right - Exit Kaufbeuren". Using process-exits this works perfectly. Would I use process-destination I would get "exit to the right towards B12 Verteilerring" or even "exit to the right towards Sudetenstraße" a really useless announcement as the sign on the trunk road reads "Kaufbeuren / Neugablonz / Mauerstetten". So this is why I would like to have an option that combines the functionality of process-exits and process-destination. Do you see any way to achieve this in one single style ? Ciao, Franco

Why is there a code-page in the .typ-file? And - is there a code-page a gmapsupp.img?

Hi Everyone 1. Switching to unicode I ask myself If I should also change the typ-file to code-page=65001 - is this only for the case that you want to label a line/poi/polygon using unicode characters - or should any .typ-file that is "bundled" by a unicode map, also be unicode? Does anyone know a garmin unicode map that has a .typ-file? 2. I couldn't notice any change on compiling a gmapsupp.img regarding a code-page set. Is there actually a code-page for a gmapsupp.img? multi-word street search

Hello! I've a problem regarding street search. In Poland (and I suppose few more countries also may have this issue) person-named streets can have two forms - long one: Miroslawa Dudka or short one: Dudka there is no standard for tagging such names in OSM. Problem is that Garmin/Mapsource search function is matching names from the beginning of the string, so if I enter "Dudka" it will find all streets named "Dudka" but not "Miroslawa Dutka". Do you have any idea how can I deal with such issue? best regards Michal Rogala

Can't split into big tiles

Hi, I would like to split Germany data into 5 tiles. I have added contour lines and sea area to OSM data but this probably is not important. My file has about 200M of nodes. If I split with max-nodes 50M, then I get about 50 tiles, which is wrong. If I split with num-tiles=5 then bounding polygon is ignored and I get tiles with boxes like: 63240002: 2176512,-935424 to 2796288,355584 # : 46.702881,-20.072021 to 60.001831,7.630005 This is useless for me, since I need true bounding boxes for tiles. I have used splitter r412. Any solution for this problem? Temporary I'm going to clip data with osmosis. -- Best regards, Andrzej

The precompiled bounds contain the needed info, it is the LocationHook that fills the tags like mkgmap:admin_level6. The LocationHook uses the --name-tag-list option to decide which value is used. It would be possible to fill an additional set of tags like mkgmap:admin_level-alt-2 .. mkgmap:admin_level-alt-11, but I don't see much use in this. If I got it right, all we need for New York are a five rules like this: mkgmap:country=USA & mkgmap:city!=* & mkgmap:admin_level5=New York City & mkgmap:admin_level6=New York County { set mkgmap:city=Manhattan } mkgmap:country=USA & mkgmap:city!=* & mkgmap:admin_level5=New York City & mkgmap:admin_level6=Kings County { set mkgmap:city=Brooklyn } ... There is a ~20MB o5m file that needs to be split. But Splitter returns: "Cannot find a good split with exactly 2 areas" I hope a (the) dev can have a look at this? Thanks! Building northeast map

I've built my own gmappsup for the US Northeast and loaded it into my Garmin. When I attempt to do an address search, it first asks me for the City, but the cities I'm looking for don't show up in the search. Oddly, when it shows the closest cities I can see some of them, but when I do a text search it shows distant oddballs. For example, with 'New York', I see: New York, FL New York, TX New York Mills, MN None of these are the New York I'm looking for. I don't even think they are in my input file, but are perhaps coming from the internal memory on my GPS. It does appear the NYC addresses are working better - I can see the Bronx Zoo is in The Bronx and Carnegie Hall is in New York, however, I can't key in an address to see if it works because of the address search issue. Another thing which has me puzzled is why some POIs are not showing the city/state. For example Desert Moon Grille <http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/3139391561> is in Danbury <http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/33271879>, Connecticut. I can find it doing a Food POI search. That works fine. But, when I select it, it shows "Not_set, Fairfield County". Nomination gets the address perfect: Desert Moon Fresh Mexican Grille, 113, Mill Plain Road, Danbury, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States of America <http://www.openstreetmap.org/node/3139391561> . I'm compiling my own bounds file, so I'm surprised it hasn't worked. Brian

Convert filter improvements

Hi I wrote this during the summer after a conversation on the list with Felix. Currently the convert filter will only convert from meters to feet as it was for compatibility with some hard wired rule back before the style system. It also didn't work if the original value had a unit. Eg: '${ele|"m=>ft"}' The patch allows for length conversions between m, km, mi, ft and speed conversions of km/h (kmh, kmph), mph, knots. New ones can easily be added. It will also take into account any unit that already exists. So for example if you have ${val|m=>ft} Then val will be assumed to be in meters if there is no unit. val=10 --> 33 if a unit is given, then it converts from that, so if already in feet the value will be unchanged. val=10ft --> 10 val=10km --> 32,808 If it can't work out what to do then the value is unchanged. ..Steve
