Still problems with lakes

Hi! I still have the problem that either lake Vänern in Sweden or lake Saimaa in Finland are partly rendered as land. The problem still exists using the latest precompiled sea from Wanmil. Using one of my older areas.list Vänern is OK but Saimaa is not. Letting the splitter create its own areas.list Saimaa is OK but then southern Vänern is dried out.

Hi, I've got a NPE while testing my style-file ( http://www.aighes.de/data/rrk_style.zip ). Any guesses were the fault could be? Maybe a better errormessage could be generated by mkgmap in this case? Problem with names of relations

I have identified what I think may be a minor bug in mkgmap: If a relation has the same name as one of its components (or perhaps any name), the name of the component is lost. I identified this on way 4798060, a small lake called 'High Dam'. Because there are islands in the lake, it is the outer component of relation 1369084, which also had the name 'High Dam'. Following mkgmap processing, the lake came out with its default name 'Reservoir'. However, when I removed the name from the relation, it came out with its correct name. (It appears correctly on OSM renderings such as mapnik). I am afraid I have already edited the relation name out on the OSM source, so others cannot test this directly. But I have verified the behaviour by manually editing a small local extract of the area. Another (minor) fault which would probably be easy to rectify: if the destination file is open in MapSource when mkgmap runs, it crashes (understandably), but leaves a number of temporary files around. Could these be deleted when the exception is processed? geofabrik

Hi, I don't remember a message about that, but I used to download Openstreetmap extracts from Geofabrik and build my map with mkgmap of course. Since september 13th, the .osm.bz2 files are no longer updated. Is there a problem with Geofabrik or/and the new licence of OSM? is there another place those OSM extracts are available?Thank you. Garmin maps on Android devices

FYI: With the latest Oruxmaps app software you can browse garmin img maps on your Android smartphone or tablet. Just copy the gmapsupp.img (or an individual img tile) to the default Oruxmap folder "mapfiles". TYP compiler and type >= 0x100

Hi, I have TYP file created using editor on ati.land.cz that contains lines with Type=0x100. It works fine on my GpsMap 62s. Now I've tried to use built in TYP compiler in mkgmap, but it converts Type to 0x01. I can see in uk.me.parabola.mkgmap.typ.CommonSection.commonKey(TokenScanner, TypElement, String, String) that Type >= 0x100 is considered Type + Subtype combined so mkgmap thinks I meant Type=0x01 and SubType=0x00. Shouldn't this condition rather be: If SubType is not defined that Type contains both Type and SubType otherwise Type is just Type? -- Jiri Klement

address search on oregon

Perhaps this is normal but it seems that the address search only works as long as I have an 'indexed' gmapsupp of my local area on my oregon. Then ,I other countries appear when clicking Spell Country in the address search. As soon as I remove my local area, the address search can't find the other countries. Is this quite common? Style include files

Hi In the style-include branch (pre-built jar files available at http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/snapshots/) you can now include files from the same style. The syntax is: include "filename"; You can put this anywhere where you can start a new rule. The contents of the file "filename" are included at that point in the file, just as you would expect. You can (and probably should) put the files in a subdirectory and access it as: include "inc/filename"; A forward slash should be used, even on windows (untested - will fix if it doesn't work). You don't strictly need the quotes around the filename if it is only letters, but its best to always use them since common filename characters such as '.' and '/' will require the quotes anyway. An included file can include another file and this can be arbitrarily nested. The name of the file is always relative to the top of the style and not relative to the location of the file that includes it. So if you have a sub-directory 'inc' with files 'first' and 'second' and 'inc/first' wants to include 'second' then it is written as: include "inc/second"; and not: include "second"; You can't yet include files from other styles, maybe that is not really so useful, what do you think? ..Steve

Problem with synthesised way

Dear group I am quite new to mkgmap, so may be I missed something obvious. Please dont rip my head off. My ambition is to generate a single routable map (no overlays) optimized for bicycle use. I'd like to have all official bike routes clearly visible. If a secondary road is part of an official bike route, I would still like it with the rendering type of a bike route. The problem is that the way http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/28596614 is rendered as a road even that it is part of a bicycle route. Beneath the road type is my assigned bicycle type. So it visible, but not as clearly as I wish. I tried to 1. move the rule to the very top of the line stylefile, no success 2. add the element definition to the relation rule, no success 3. assign the draw order of the bike route type in a typ editor to a draw order above all others, no success. Finally I found the following block in uk.me.parabola.mkgmap.reader.osm.HighwayHooks: // what we have here is a highway with a // separate track for cycles -- to enable // bicycle routing, we synthesise a cycleway // that has the same points as the original // way makeCycleWay(way); if (way.getTag("bicycle") == null) way.addTag("bicycle", "no"); mkgmap synthesises a new way exactly above the existing one. It seems to me that the newly generated way is drawn above the one with the type I like. I commented these three lines and tada! it worked. The comment suggests that the routing will not work any longer as expected. I didnt test on my device (gpsmap62) but with BaseCamp and Activity Bicycling it seems ok. Mmmmh..... What I dont understand: Why do we have to add a complete way to support routing? We never now which one comes first or second so that the finally rendered type is unpredictable. To be honest: I dont now. Should the tag altering/mapping not be covered by the rules in the stylefile? Every hint appreciated Toby

[PATCH v1] Rework of the location-autofill parameter

Hi, attached patch reorganizes the location-autofill parameter as discussed before on this list. * The location-autofill parameter has no longer the option bounds so only the options nearest and is_in. * If location-autofill is not set mkgmap does not try to find an alternative location (so no city/region/country alternative) * In case the city name of a POI or road is unknown the city name is left empty (which means an empty string ""). For me this worked well but Steve pointed out some doubts that it works. So please test carefully (a good region for this to test is africa using precompiled bounds but no location-autofill) * The bounds and the location-autofill parameter have no longer a default value * It is now possible to set the bounds parameter but index not. The help files need to be updated. I will do that before committing. But please test first :-) WanMil
