Hi Greg, Just to clarify ... the admin_levels for Ireland described here http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Ireland/Boundaries#Boundary_Types don't seem to mention things like village boundaries - there's a big gap between admin_level=8 and admin_level=10. In situations like this, maybe the locator could be more flexible and use other kinds of boundaries too. Regards, Cliff

Problem with huge polygon - vänern sea - sweden

Hi all, I'm currently working on a map of sweden. I run into a problem concerning the vänern sea (between Vänersborg and Karlstad). This is an very huge polygon / sea - 10 times larger than the german/swiss Bodensee. Only a small part of the sea will be displayed on the as water: http://gis.19327.n5.nabble.com/file/n5710048/Bildschirmfoto_2012-05-24_um_1… Questions: - Has someone a working splitter / mkgmap configuration for sweden ? - I have set the splitter option "-overlap=10000" - could this be insufficient ? latin1 an index creation

Hi, would it be possible to add a hint in help=options, that --latin1 is needed for generating the index? Or change the code, that all strings for index-creation were automatically converted to latin1 and strings shown in the map are converted with --code-page. Don't know if this is possible. Henning

Overview map

Hi I have started to implement adding features into the overview map. You can find ready built jar files on the download page and in the 'overview' branch in subversion. It creates the overview map from the .img (as before) and so it is very quick to try out even on a set of tiles covering a whole country. There is no configuration yet, it just takes everything (lines and polygons) that is in the least detailed layer of the detailed maps and adds it into the overview. You will immediately notice a big problem in that the overview map shows up even when the detailed maps are being displayed, so you get ugly jagged lines across the top of the map. I remember this happening the last time we has an overview map and I wonder if anyone can remember if there was a solution then? I'm going to start by trying the (so-called) POI flags, as one of those has been noted to be set differently on detail and base maps before. ..Steve

Found Bug in mkgmap address index creation of gmapsupp.img (again "please enter country" but impossible)

Okay, well I like many though that mkgmap can create a more or less correct address index itself when writing gmapsupp.img, this is true, however not under all circumstances. The test setup is rather complicated, so best get the same data. The problem is, that the gmapsupp.img by mkgmap is only working with correct address search, if all tiles themselves were created with "index". However if you use mkgmap to create a gmapsupp.img that consists of tiles with address search support (for below testexample 6*.img) and tiles with no address search support .i.e. contourline maps (for below testexample 7*.img) then the address search is not working (but instead asking for country).... To replicate: make sure that your GPS device has a fix. Without fix this behaviour is normal. For testing, you can get for example the following map: ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/openmtbmap/mtbalps.exe (as of writing, ftp5.gwdg.de seems to be offline, I hope this is soon over...) (the .exe is of course lzma packed, so no need to install). 1. Creating gmapsupp.img of 6*.img files with mkgmap 2278: after GPS fix, works (needs however data rather close by, there seems to be another bug, that if you for example are in UK, and now upload a map with parts in Austria, but none in UK, address search won't work even with GPS fix, this is however also happening if the same mkgmap created map is sent with Mapsource/Mapinstall). 2. Creating gmapsupp of all 6*.img & 7*.img files with mkgmap 2278: after GPS fix, no chance to select a "working" country, and subsequent fields are also not found 3. Creating gmapsupp of all 6*.img and 7*.img files with Mapsource: with GPS fix, and data close to your location. address search works. (Garmin City Navigator maps, address search works even without GPS fix, and no need for data to be close (~1000km) by. So still a long way to go).

problem with primary roads and their names

Hi! I have a problem with rendering primary roads and their names in Garmin (mostly MapSource) I have rules: highway=primary {name '${name}' | '${ref}'; add display_name = '${name} (${ref})' } highway=primary [0x03 road_class=3 road_speed=4 resolution 14] The problem is: in many cases some sections of primary roads have their names assigned (especially in cities). Those names are displayed at lower map resolutions (such as 14,16, etc) making the map look ugly - you see primary roads and city names but also irrelevant street names that should be visible only at high resolutions. Do you know any ideas how can I fix this issue - block displaying street name at levels low than for example 20? OpenMTBMap is rendering properly - I tried to compare style files but without any success. I was thinking about removing name tag from roads at lower resolutions. Something like: highway=primary [0x03 road_class=3 road_speed=4 resolution 22 continue] highway=primary {delete name } highway=primary [0x03 road_class=3 road_speed=4 resolution 14-22] (this is proof of concept so syntax may be invalid). best regards Michal

bug in rendering of relation=multipolygon?

http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/6128 http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/58910 these 2 relations describe a forest in germany, the forest being the outer polygon, clearings, a quarry and so on the inner ones. the relation istself has (actually had, i corrected it just now) only type=multipolygon and a name. mkgmap renders all the inner polygons, but only some (randomly, can't find a significant difference) are cut out of the surrounding forest. as soon as the relation has a landuse=forest, everything works as expected.

how to make address search aware of the Canadian provinces?

Hi, I'm generating a map of Canada with this command: java -jar mkgmap/dist/mkgmap.jar --latin1 --gmapsupp --min-size-polygon \ --series-name="OSM Canada" --family-name="OpenStreetMap Canada 08 May 2012" \ --index --location-autofill=bounds,is_in,nearest --bounds=bounds --add-pois-to-areas \ --pois-to-areas-placement="entrance=main;entrance=yes;building=entrance" \ --check-roundabout-flares --route --remove-short-arcs --drive-on-right --check-roundabouts \ --family-id=34244 --product-id=1 --road-name-pois \ --generate-sea="extend-sea-sectors,multipolygon,floodblocker" --make-all-cycleways \ -c template.args --description="OSM Canada" I'd like to know if it's possible to get the address search to be aware of the provinces. For example, on the built-in map of my Nuvi 255w, the GPS "knows" that I'm in Ontario and gives me the option to change the 'state/country'. Here's a screenshot that shows this behaviour: http://bagu.org/scratch/nuvi-255w-address-search-builtin-map.bmp With the mkgmap generated maps, the GPS only "knows" that I'm in Canada.
