Hi Greg, Just to clarify ... the admin_levels for Ireland described here http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Ireland/Boundaries#Boundary_Types don't seem to mention things like village boundaries - there's a big gap between admin_level=8 and admin_level=10. In situations like this, maybe the locator could be more flexible and use other kinds of boundaries too. Regards, Cliff

Overview map

Hi I have started to implement adding features into the overview map. You can find ready built jar files on the download page and in the 'overview' branch in subversion. It creates the overview map from the .img (as before) and so it is very quick to try out even on a set of tiles covering a whole country. There is no configuration yet, it just takes everything (lines and polygons) that is in the least detailed layer of the detailed maps and adds it into the overview. You will immediately notice a big problem in that the overview map shows up even when the detailed maps are being displayed, so you get ugly jagged lines across the top of the map. I remember this happening the last time we has an overview map and I wonder if anyone can remember if there was a solution then? I'm going to start by trying the (so-called) POI flags, as one of those has been noted to be set differently on detail and base maps before. ..Steve

[PATCH v1] Subdivision splitting

Attached patch should fix (all?) subdivision splitting problems. Error like "Area too small to split at ..." cannot occur any more because the way how subdivisions are split is changed. I think it's still not the optimal way but there should be no loss in highly densed areas any more. This is a first patch not ready to commit because there are some performance penalties which can be reduced. But I want you to test the patch before optimization. WanMil

NSIS 64bit installer

Hi All! So, the bug is that NSIS generates installers that work only at 32bit Windows systems (can anyone confirm?), so I developed a patch for latest version of mkgmap which includes changes to default nsi script and NsisBuilder.java. Can anyone look through? The main difference is that Registry path should be changed if that is x64. Version 2109 was commited by marko on 2011-11-23 14:50:49 +0000 (Wed, 23 Nov 2011) Refactor the default style a little. Create some substyles and import them in the default style. The default style should remain functionally equivalent. contours_ft: Elevation contour lines, meters converted to feet. waters: Lakes, seas, reservoirs, waterways. landuse: Most other landuse than waters and man-made features. This is work in progress. More substyles will be refactored soon.

manipulating gmapsupp.img

is it possible to manioulate gmapsupp.img contents if it has multiple maps included ? that is, listing, removing, updating included maps ? listing might have to show those 'mapnames' that have to be unique to be really useful, i guess. i tried searching around, but the search terms seem to be a bit too generic to return useful results :) -- Rich

MultiSortKey cannot be cast to SrtSortKey

Country names

Hi all, I am thinking about the country names that mkgmap puts into the map. (The following lines are valid for the locator branch but the differences to the trunk are quite small) At the moment the country name is taken from the country relation using the tag order defined by the name-tag-list option. This name is looked up in the LocatorConfig.xml. If there is a match (there should be one), the name defined in the LocatorConfig.xml is used as map wide country name. There is the shortcoming that this name need not be the same as specified by the name-tag-list option. So there is some work to do if you want to build a french map that uses french country names only. Would it make sense to use the LocatorConfig.xml just as a mapping tool for the three letter code (name:en => three letter code) and the real name is taken as defined by the name-tag-list option? This has the shortcoming that the relation names contains some administrative stuff "Federal Republic of Germany" instead of "Germany". Any thoughts? WanMil

Base style sub-styles

Marko (mainly), How does the sub styles idea work.? In commit 1209, where is the sub-styles? at \examples\styles I can see the default and noname styles. In the info file of the default style I can see base-style=contours_ft base-style=location base-style=waters Is this the sub-styles that will be included in the default style? Where are these sub-styles though? Suppose an included base-style treats an element a certain way, will the main style (default in this case) then ignore this element? So the base-style treatment overrides the main style? Will a continue statement in the base style then reverse this, so that the main style treatment will prevail? Then, in the case of 3 sub styles, if they all have actions for the same element: the first style will be used, and the rest ignored unless a continue statement is used in the previous style? A continue statement will have no effect if the previous sub style did not have a continue statement? Or should conflicting rules be avoided? Argh, I hope someone understand what I mean? I don't use the default style, but a style based on the default with a couple of tweaks for custom points & lines etc. Still I like to keep updating regularly to benefit from Marko's improvement in the style. So I copy my tweaks into the latest default styles manually. The sub style idea might make my manual operation unnecessary, if I can just include my own style into the default. Before any other included styles, if I understand it correctly. Bennie

Great! True color pois are now rendered correctly except for colormode=32 However,I've come across a few more blemishes.
