Question: Is it possible to achieve for a point, generated by add-pois-to-areas, the same processing as for an identical point? point: name: Junge shop: bakery Rule: shop = bakery & name = * {name '${name} (Bäckerei)'} [0x2a0d resolution 24] Result: Junge (Bäckerei) closedway: building: yes name: Kamps shop: bakery Rule: compiler option "add-pois-to-areas" Result: Kamps Is it anyway possible to achieve the result "Kamps (Bäckerei)" instead of "Kamps"? Team O.i.D. mkgmap dist available for download

Hi, for my own use I created a script which does the download and compiling job for me. Here is the link: http://www.team-oid.de/garmin_maps/mkgmap_dist.tar.gz I'm going to update the mkgmap and splitter.jar files regularly and will also provide so docs how to use it. So please download, use and also provide it to others. Feedback and bug reports are welcome. If somebody has any enhacements, patches or something, I will also integrate them. Also non positive feedback will be recognized. Just download it, extract and start compiling maps. All needed files are within the package. The script will show a usgae with: create_maps.sh --help. Compiling a german map will work like that: create_maps.sh -cl "germany.osm" thats, all. The finished maps may be found within the maps directory. Ah the java process will take 5GB of memory, so a 8GB maschin would be recommended. Have fun and let me know what you think about. Regards, Marco

Support for motor_vehicle=*

Having retagged some roads in my area as a result of some changes to road layouts, I noticed that my Garmin was routing me over a bit of road which I had tagged "motor_vehicle=no". The road is signposted with the usual "No Motor Vehicles" sign (red ring containing a car above a motorcycle) which, according to both the NL and general wikis should be tagged as "motor_vehicle=no". This is also supported by the fact that Potlatch2 includes an easily accessible facility to set this tag. Having browsed through the source and the style files I could find no reference to the motor_vehicle tag, which surprised me a bit... Anyway I fixed it for me by adding a single instruction to the "lines" file: # add support for motor_vehicle highway=* & motor_vehicle!=yes {add access='${motor_vehicle}'; add foot=yes; add bicycle=yes; add mofa=yes; add moped=yes; add horse=yes} This handles motor_vehicle=no and motor_vehicle=destination ("except for access" in the UK for example). I assume "motor_vehicle=yes" (don't know when one might use this) will work properly anyway. The moped and mofa tags reflect the rules here in NL, where these vehicles are not counted as motor vehicles for the purposes of this sign. If these subtleties are different in other countries, it can easily be adapted by referencing mkgmap:country. Is this a reasonable way to do this? If so, could it be added to the standard mkgmap distribution? Best regards, Colin Smale

This patch lets you set --code-page=932; with it, mkgmap outputs maps with proper Japanese characters for my Oregon 300. It disables transliteration. To display on my unit, I use modified fonts that include Asian characters, which I downloaded from: http://download.garmin.com/tw/download/TW_MAINWEB_UPGRADE/nuvi200_TWN_v410.… using instructions from: http://www.malfreemaps.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=289&start=20 My resulting font files in Garmin\ExtData are: 006-D0952-05.bin 2,378,440 bytes 006-D0952-06.bin 8,006,800 bytes Can others verify that it also works for them? I'm a Java newbie, so the implementation may be sub-optimal. Kimon

[PATCH v1] Reimplementation of add-pois-to-areas option

The patch realizes the reimplementation of the add-pois-to-areas option as discussed in thread http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2011q3/012391.html Some notes: * Each POI created by the new Area2POIHook is tagged with mkgmap:area2poi=true * For each multipolygon one POI is created at the center of the largest polygon (largest = biggest covered area; size of inner polygons is subtracted). This means that the POI may be located outside the multipolygon area. * The old implementation contained some additional rules which have not been implemented in the new implementation. I wonder if they are really required: 1. Skip road name POIs => Probably you don't have a rule for that in your points file 2. Skip cities without name => I don't know. Maybe that check is relevant. 3. Skip areas which contains a POI with the same name => If you follow the rule "don't tag for renders" there should be an area OR a POI but not both. The patch is tested a little but if you are interested in you can help me by sending your opinion if it's a good replacement for the old implementation or what can be improved. Have fun! WanMil

adding current date to NSIS installer

I'm trying to add the current date to the installer file (like osm_map_07-10-2011.exe) and the (un)install information. I use the script from this example, http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Date_and_time_in_installer_or_application_name !define /date MyTIMESTAMP "%d-%m-%Y" Name "${INSTALLER_DESCRIPTION}${MyTIMESTAMP}" OutFile "${INSTALLER_NAME}_${MyTIMESTAMP}.exe" Unfortunately, the nsis builder from mkgmap crashes on this !define /date MyTIMESTAMP "%d-%m-%Y" line, see attachment. If I add those lines later to the nsi file, it works well. Is this a bug?

Countries not in locator config

Processing the map of India I get the errors below, although some of the countries *are* in the locator config file (Indonesia, People's Republic of China). What is not working?. Other countries are written in local languages characters, so cannot match any name in LocatorConfig file. Using name-tag-list=int_name,name:en,name they are substituted by names such as Nepal, Bhutan, etc. witch are also in LocatorConfig but still give the error. Country name ပြည်ထောင်စုမြန်မာနိုင်ငံတော်‌ not in locator config. Country may not be assigned correctly. Country name বাংলাদেশ not in locator config. Country may not be assigned correctly. Country name ශ්‍රී ලංකා not in locator config. Country may not be assigned correctly. Country name Indonesia not in locator config. Country may not be assigned correctly.
