Hi I have started to implement adding features into the overview map. You can find ready built jar files on the download page and in the 'overview' branch in subversion. It creates the overview map from the .img (as before) and so it is very quick to try out even on a set of tiles covering a whole country. There is no configuration yet, it just takes everything (lines and polygons) that is in the least detailed layer of the detailed maps and adds it into the overview. You will immediately notice a big problem in that the overview map shows up even when the detailed maps are being displayed, so you get ugly jagged lines across the top of the map. I remember this happening the last time we has an overview map and I wonder if anyone can remember if there was a solution then? I'm going to start by trying the (so-called) POI flags, as one of those has been noted to be set differently on detail and base maps before. ..Steve

[PATCH] Add a substring filter to the style language.

This can be used to extract substrings from values. multipolygon wih leisure=park does not render

Hello all, I'm new here, but did not know where else to go. Recently, I noticed (at least) one multipolygon I created near me did not render with mkgmap r1655 or r1669. I did some research, but don't know what to do next. The polygon that does not render is 1022941 [1]. Mapnik renders it OK [2]. Another one, very similar does render: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/relation/976305 (version 1) Changing the order of the members in the multipolygon (in a local OSM file) makes no difference. Removing all tags from the members also does not solve the issue. Changing tags for the relation from leisure=park to landuse=recreation_ground does enable rendering, as does landuse=park. Changing the tags in the style definition (polygons file, "leisure=park {set landuse=park}", or same line in relations file) is no solution. The Wiki does mention leisure=park as a possible tag [4] and I find it logical. Any ideas how to get this rendered (without editing the OSM database)? I tried other OSM German maps with similar result. The originator of QLandkarte GT, who I have contacted, guess the cause in mkgmap. [PATCH v1] Recognize more tags as polygon tags in mp algorithm

A multipolygon is recognized as fully tagged if one or more special tags are set. The patch expands this list by the tags "leisure", "military", "man_made", "building", "place" and "tourism". This is a result of the thread http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/pipermail/mkgmap-dev/2010q3/008849.html. WanMil

Adaptable paths for input and output files

Hi list, I had to cope with other things in the last 8 weeks and did not follow the list. I'd just be interested if the --output-path functionality is going to be implemented at all (see thread) or what the current state is. I've been submitting diffs at the time, but cannot see actual changes in the current code. Will this feature exist in the future or is it considered unnecessary bloat? I can report that the OSM img files I built with mkgmap work pretty well; you can just drop osm.img from mkgmap output on the flash in Garmin/. The map display is subdued (vs the harsh but easy to absord etrex), and that's making me more inclined to play with TYP files, although I lack the Copious Spare Time.

one wish for creating a style

Hi! According to [1] you have to add to following line > {name '${name} (${ref})' | '${ref}' | '${name}'} if you want to name a street with 'ref' or 'name' or both. When you have 3 or more tags which could exist, the rule will be very complicated. My wish is that i can give a list of tags and mkgmap adds these, if they exist, to the name tag, but don't bother if one or more tags are missing. This is for mapping purposes.
