Hello Every one, I am Parveen Arora .An engineering student. I am doing a project of setting osm -server for Our state punjab in India and to develop its and features of Main OpenStreetMap. i have followed the instruction given at the following website. http://weait.com/content/build-your-own-openstreetmap-server But it has not wrked upto end. New, faster splitter

WanMil sent through a very nice patch for the splitter that writes out the results using multiple threads, giving a pretty big speedup during the 2nd half of the split if you have a multicore PC. For me, the time it takes to split the UK is less than half what it used to be. I've checked his patch in (r109) so feel free to give it a go. Note that by default the code will automatically use all available CPU cores but there's a new parameter --max-threads that you can use to control the number of cores that are used should you want to reduce them for whatever reason. Runways on highways

Someone notified me that this highway that serves as a temporary runway during military exercises is not being considered for routing: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/45772320 aeroway = runway highway = primary name = Turuntie ref = 41 The obvious reason is that in styles/default/lines, aeroway=runway comes before any highway=* tags. I think that we should just move the aeroway=* rules below highway=* so that any highways that serve as temporary airfields will be translated as highways. Any objections to that? Are there any aeroway=* that are also tagged as highway=service, for example? Should they require some special treatment? Marko

splitter coordinates

Moin, I want to use splitter (r109) for cutting a predifined tile that includes the prime meridian. How do I set the coordinates west from the prime meridian? I tried to set the minimum longitude to 355 degrees, but the resulting tile was empty. Must I use -5 degrees instead? And what about a tile including the equator or the 180 degrees longitude? Garmin Car SatNav recommendations

Hi all, Returning to the world of playing with mkgmap after a while doing other things, and in need of a new in-car satnav, I thought it might be fun to combine the two. So, I thought I might ask the list for a recommendation of which Garmin satnav to buy. The primary function here is to be sure that when I encounter routing errors, it's the data at fault and not the device, so I can go fix the problem. avg speed on roads

Hi, i remember dark that the Garmin Data modell contains some classification for road speeds e.g. used for time calculation in routing. Is there any osm tag used for hinting those speeds except the highway type? The question i ask is that i am currently on la palma and i am mapping when family lets me go - i found that routing times are off by a factor or 2 or 3. Measuring the avg. speed for sections of 10-20km on primarys is something low like 35km/h on some parts and something like 55km/h on fast parts. The max speed on these sections is mostly 80km/h but in the end nobody gets that fast. The low avg speed is caused by very tight slopes the roads wind up the mountains. So is there something like "avgspeed=" which gets used? I could hint the long distance roads like primarys in the sections i measured the avg. speed. linesCutEachOther() always returns false

Could someone who understands these things please look at the linesCutEachOther() routine in MultiPolygonRelation.java and let me know what needs to be done to it. Currently it never returns true. ..Steve

Add link-to-tags features that behaves like the link-pois-to-ways Command for the lines style-file

I am coming to a point when maintaining my lines file, that adding a single key on top, means 200-300 lines more. This is becoming unmaintainable. It would be great to have the option to have rules just like the ones we have for POI that one can run on certain keys. e.g. lanes=2 & oneway=yes { add mkgmap:road-speed = '-1'; add mkgmap:road-class = '-1'; } This should then be matched to all lines that are generated after this command. As this is already possible for POI, I hope someone could without much effort implement this for rules based on tags too. This would be very useful as it saves many many lines of code. Currently if you would like to do something like this, it means that you have to add the rule to every line (with autorouting) in your lines file. This is okay for one or to tags (like some people do for maxspeed), but it becomes impossible to keep track once you have 10 tags you like to be enacted. If there are several rules matching, they should simply add up. (or equalise themselves if +1 meets -1...) It would be really great if someone could implement this feature. As it exists already for POI when using link-pois-to-ways I have the great hope that it is easy to implement and program and someone finds some spare time to do it. This could really help to avoid creating a ton of rules and open up many new possibilities to much better finetune road_class and road_speed. It would be a plus, if one could only "apply" this rule until a stop rule is given. Quick example lanes=2 & oneway=yes { add mkgmap:road-speed = '+1'; add mkgmap:road-class = '+1'; set rule=1 } highway=primary & maxspeed=100 {road_class=3 road_speed=4 0x02] highway=primary .... highway=secondary... .... rule=1 {stop execution}
