OK, so deleting a boundary tag from an island's coastline wasn't the best way to solve the problem. Now it leaves the original way intact and makes new ways (that only have name tags + the land tag) for the land polygons.

Multiple .img files in one gmapsupp.img: Some will not show up

Good evening, I'm using mkgmap r1466 and splitter r103. With my python script [1] I at first build .img files of various .osm.bz2 files and then put some of them into a gmapsupp.img file. I do _not_ regenerate the .img files each time I create a gmapsupp.img. For image files of maps which did not change I replace the family ID (binary search&replace, in libGarmin.py in the bz2; see [1]). The family ID is _unique_ for every single file. Now my problem is that some tiles are simply missing. I just tried to build an Europe map, and Germany lacks about half of all tiles. For available tiles there is a rectangle on the map when zooming out to 200km+ (on my 60CSx), and they are missing in Germany. Spain is completely missing. When I go to «Setup Map» on the 60CSx, I see lots of entries like: * OSM street map, Area 00010005, Jan 2010 * OSM street map, Area 00010000, Jan 2010 But at least as much of these: * , , Jan 2010 At least some of them do contain data. I could locate one of them in Germany. Question: What is going wrong there? Why are some tiles missing? Why is there an empty description (, , Jan 2010) for some tiles? Map ID: In-file replacing

Good evening, I thought it would be enough to just search for the map ID in a .img file and replace it by a new one. Well, after some research I found out that this is not true. http://svn.parabola.me.uk/mkgmap/trunk/src/uk/me/parabola/imgfmt/app/trergn… I tried to check out TreCalc listed there, but it would not compile ... Would it be possible to change mkgmap that way that it supports in-file replacing of the map ID (without regenerating all stuff)? Simon

Split barrier=* and traffic_calming=* to a separate layer?

Some time ago, I faced some opposition against adding this to styles/default/points: +traffic_calming=* [0x6614 resolution 21] I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to split all barriers (fences, gates, bollards, whatever) and traffic_calming to a separate layer? These objects are not usually searched for or routed to, and they are not relevant for navigation much of the time. In other words, I would propose a new style that would translate these points and lines and remove the translations from the default style. I would also propose to include a simple multi-layered map-making script in the mkgmap repository. (Or two scripts, one for Windows cmd.exe and another for Bourne shell.) Can someone please give me a hand with this? How would I generate a transparent style=barrier layer on top of a routable style=default layer? (Note that no TYP files should be necessary for this.) Can mkgmap already join the two layers into a gmapsupp.img? As a bonus, how about creating installers for MapSource and RoadTrip? Best regards, Marko

Dear professionals, Mark has made a very nice nautical chart for www.OpenSeaMap.org <https://sourceforge.net/projects/openseamap/files/Maps/Garmin/baltic.zip/do…> It works very well on handhelds! Next week we will exhibit OpenSeaMap on the boat show www.boat-duesseldorf.com (23.-31. January, hall 14/G39). Now I need your help: How can I make working the map on a Garmin nautical chart plotter? Add amenity=bar [0x2d02 resolution 21] to points style file

I noticed that JOSM now has amenity=bar in the presets list. Also OSMdoc indicates that there are 2096 nodes with this tag. Would it make sense to add the following to the points style file: amenity=bar [0x2d02 resolution 21] (This is the same POI used by Pub and Nightclub.) Party on dudes!

bollards working or not?

Hi, Why is this bollard not working? (car/shortest mode in MapSource) <http://up.picr.de/3573513.png> While another bollard near the church (Mauritiusstraße) works fine ? In my points-style I have: highway=bollard | barrier=bollard {add motorcar=no} [0x7001 resolution 24] and I am using the --link-pois-to-roads option.
