phone number bug?

Hello, I use mkgmap to make Garmin maps for my Nuvi 860T gps. I notice that POIs which have only a phone number can be used directly with my bluetooth hands-free phone to call it. However, as soon as there is any address info attached to the POI as well, the phone number appears as follows in the info screen for the POI: POI xyz street adress+353 87 1234567 Notice that the phone number appears at the end of the address info without any space and it is no longer available to me to dial directly from the gps unit. The call that I use to make the map is as follows: ava -Xmx512m -jar /Applications/mkgmap/dist/mkgmap.jar --remove-short-arcs --ge nerate-sea --description="OSM_Ireland" --country-name="Ireland" --country-abbr=" IRL" --series-name="Openstreetmap" --latin1 --tdbfile --codepage=1252 --style-fi le=./cliff_style --family-id=1 --product-id=1 --net --road-name-pois --add-pois- to-areas --route ./ireland.osm java -Xmx512m -jar /Applications/mkgmap/dist/mkgmap.jar --family-id=1 --gmapsupp 6*.img M0000001.TYP Does this look like a bug? Here's a patch that: adds some options to the help file improves wording in the help file adds TODO items in the help file when I think something should be there but don't know the answer a bit of general cleanup in the help file removes option description from README, pointing people to the help file and README.examples I've gone through some of my saved mail messages - I'm trying to work the helpful hints in them into the docs so I no longer need to save the messages.

Hello list, I searched for a complete list of all mkgmap command-line options and what they should do, but I couldn't find a good and up-to-date list. The list in the wiki is much too old. In the last few month they were very cool and usefull improvements of mkgmap but it's sometimes not easy to use and test them because they are not known. I would wish to have a Wiki page with all mkgmap options, their functionality, their usage and their status (stable, unstable...). Do you think this is a good idea? Multipolygon highway bug

Hi, if you look here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=49.22319&lon=16.591428&zoom=18&layers=B00… you see highway (with junction=roundabout) around leisure=park. Both are in relation multipolygon. Apparent bug: POIs from areas

Folks, By accident, I've noticed that when areas are converted to POIs, address and phone number information (and maybe other stuff) does not seem to be preserved. For instance, see here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/4482136 The maps I create can display address and phone number for normal point POIs, but not for this restaurant. Happy mapping! Magic highway symbols on Vista CX failing

Hello I seem to have a problem with the default style and the highway tagging on my Garmin Vista CX with mkgmap rev. 1114. When I tag highway=secondary, name=Grand River and ref=MI 123, the result is a road with name "Road". It works as expected, however, with highway=primary. So I did some research and I think the problem is that not all of the "magic" symbols in src/uk/me/parabola/mkgmap/osmstyle/actions/HighwaySymbolFilter.java are available on the unit. Also they are named wrongly for this unit. I made an OSM test file[1] to check all symbol names given in the above source file. It contains parallel road segments with ref=MI 43 name=Grand River I-VI and highway tags of motorway,trunk,primary,secondary,tertiary,residential respectively. Then I used a slightly modified default line style[2] (which assigns one highway symbol to each of the above road types) to generate a map[3] with the --gmapsupp command switch. After uploading the result to my Vista CX, it renders like in this picture[4]. The styles are (from bottom to top): interstate,shield,round,hbox,box,oval. Some remarks: * Styles "interstate" and "shield" look exactly like hbox and box but they prepend "US" and "Hwy." to the reference (only appears when hovering the pointer over the street). This is not so useful for OSM data, since the US tagging scheme in the Wiki says those should be included in the ref tag (i.e. ref="I 94" or ref="US 127"). * Style "box" is misnamed, as it produces an oval * Style "oval" does not work, it seems to break the entire name of the road * Style "round" is misnamed, it produces a framed box I don't know how other units render these symbols, so I can't say whether the names should be changed or not. But I do think that "oval" should at least not be used in the default style for secondary roads, as it actually breaks the name display on my (not quite uncommon) unit. If you need more information or want me to run more tests, please let me know. errors in routing

Hi, Using polish format as input, I get routing errors on roads that have been split by mkgmap. The errors do not show up on all roads split, but they show up on most. The map will not route onto the split road. From what I can see the roads are being split because they exceed the maximum number of points in a line (250). I will test OSM data to see if it has the same problem, but I assume it would have been reported. I guess not many are using polish format input. Garvan

With the previous value of 75000, routing could break even though RouteArc was not actually complaining that the arc's length was too long to be encoded. So there must be some other constraint on an arc's length that we don't know about.
