Make --add-pois-to-areas default?

Hi, I just noted with a garmin map from kleineisel.de that my local supermarket is not listed. The reason is that it's an area, not a point. I think this is caused by not applying --add-pois-to-areas (?) I think it's reasonable to make this option the default and only disable it by request. It should be the common case that one wants pois generated also if they are areas. Changed build.xml for DEM generation

Hi, I'm using Linux and was searching for a way to create contour lines. Therefore I was amazed that Christian Gawron just added the functionality to mkgmap in svn. But then I realized, that it was disabled again. Therefore I would like to propose the changes to the build.xml file and the external.properties (see attached files). This would enable the GeoTIFF class build if JAI is available. By the way I'm still trying to understand the DEM functionality. Can anyone add some more information to the Wiki, e.g. - where to download the needed files, - how to set the required bounding box, - an example of the content of the directory set by --dem-path - etc. Sorry about the questions, but I'm really curious about this functionality. Garmin Device Routing Options

Hi, In the Garmin GPSR (mine is a Etrex Legend HCX) there are several options for routing. How are they mapped to mkgmap/OSM features? Here my guesses: Calculate Routes for: Car -> motorcar Truck -> hgv (?) Bus -> psv (?) Emergency (???) Taxi -> taxi Delivery -> psv (?) Pedestrian -> foot Bicycle -> bicycle Avoid: Toll Roads -> toll=yes Highways -> (road classes 3&4 ??) Unpaved Roads -> (??) Carpool Lanes -> (??) Chris

Does anyone have a genuine garmin routable map tile that is unlocked?

Not a basemap, but a real routable tile. It doesn't matter what area it is for. If so, can you please zip it up and send to me or otherwise make it available to download. Cheers, Mark

Last level not empty, why not anymore?

How comes that the newest mkgmap versions write in information into the last level, instead of leaving it empty? I do think that this prohibits using layers in Mapsource as maps without empty level seem to show up allways on top, instead according to their mapname/mapid. 3 weeks ago this behaviour still was fine. There could be several other problems related to not leaving the last level empty, though I have not found any except the draw priority issues in Mapsource.... I'm not sure since when the problem came up exactly - because I currently got problems accessing my main pc remotely, From around 25 weeks ago to 10 days ago I did not update my mkgmap version because some of my own patches were not compatible with the continue patch and mkgmap would not build anymore. 10 days ago I switched to newest mkgmap version and put in the continue patch - otherwise my mkgmap version is equal to svn. So sometime in between 10 days ago and 25 days ago this behaviour was changed. (so in between rev 1080 and 1124). Felix

Inter-tile routing failures - not all our fault?

There is a particular failure of inter-tile routing that we have seen quite often which is that it fails to find a route when the source and destination are in the same tile and the only (sensible) route is via another tile. (If a sub-optimal route that only uses the source tile is available that will get used.) Well, I naturally assumed that this was caused by mkgmap doing something wrong but I'm not so sure now because I have been looking at the free nz mapset that is generated using cgpsmapper and that exhibits exactly the same behaviour as our maps do in this respect. So, either the bug is in mapsource (and all Garmin GPS units?) or mkgmap and cgpsmapper are both getting it wrong in the same way. Cheers, Mark
