The loop that set all the deny access bits was setting the two "unknown" bits (delivery and emergency). As we don't really understand what they do at this time, it's probably better not to set them. Also add "taxi" to the list of vehicle classes so that the "deny taxi" bit will get set when access=no.

Thank you for your answer, I will send you my .img next week (8.21Mb). Mapsource can be downloaded from Garmin website.

About calculation time & pathfinding

Routing with Ireland osm file produces stranges results. I removed all errors found in the converted polish format file with mapedit but the result is still strange with Mapsource : - in many cases the pathfinding stops with an error, - the path defined does not respect any one way restriction on motor ways, - the diabolic pink line can vanish along a road and it can reappear few hundreds meters further, - the time computed for the route is totally wrong (it is like speed are minored by a factor between 8 and 12). In mapedit, pathfinding works well without any error on converted osm to polish format file. I did not find yet a clue in ... Any idea is welcome. What it is done with mkgmap is really a good work, thank you for this tool.

Inter-tile routing now available in trunk

Folks, Robert heroically discovered why the inter-tile routing was not functioning at all well and I believe it's now become quite useful so I have committed the code to the trunk. I appears to work fairly well in mapsource although I have found that for long routes it gives up and draws a straight line even though it can route OK if you add some intervening waypoints. So, more work required but it would be great to get some feedback as to how it's currently performing especially on real gps units. Obviously, if you find this new code has broken the intra-tile routing, it can be backed out. All feedback welcome. Cheers, Mark

Turn commands

Hi, I have noticed that the number of turn commands my nuvi tells me are more frequent now. It looks like the sensitivity changed. Some weeks ago it didn't told me to turn in some cases I would expect to get a command. Now it likes to talk much more. Sometimes in cases where it is not required because I just follow the same road. My question is: Is there some code in mkgmap which tunes that behavior ? Thanks Berni.

Previously I was getting a different order for the same input file each time I ran it. We need to investigate how names should be sorted as it depends on locale and not on character set. For example ?\195?\164 comes at the end of the alphabet in Norwegian but is sorted with a in some other languages. This code sorts cities in the same way as cgpsmapper produced maps of germany I've seen. The accented characters are sorted with the non-accented. Previously accented characters were at the end.

Display of overview map at large zoom values

Hello, I have noticed that when I view a map in Mapsource, and I zoom out to a scale of 300 km or above, the entire map disappears. The problem is worse on Mac OS X using Garmin RoadTrip, as RoadTrip does not display tile boundaries. I found that adjusting the "topBits" attribute of OverviewMapDataSource.java changes this behaviour. If I set topBits = 11, the map can be displayed at scales of up to 1500 km. The comment in the code above this attribute, "// TODO need to change this.", seems to be a hint that this is not optimal. ;-) (Also, in my tests, if I lowered topBits to a value below 11, the entire map would not be displayed; with 11 the overview map is still not displayed at scale values of 2000 or 3000 km. Obviously a more comprehensive solution would be desirable.) - Is this a known issue? Is this restriction deliberate? I assume for this modification to be acceptable, the style files must be adjusted so as to not display excessive detail at these zoom levels. I have already done this in my custom style files: performance is reasonable. I am certainly not familiar with Java development in general, and definitely not with this project in particular, so I imagine that my modification will most likely not be suitable for general use. However, I have included the diff output below for your consideration anyway.
