When scanning backwards looking for a place to split the way to limit the way's number of points, don't set the flag that says we're splitting the way at a previous node if the split is going to be at the current point (i.e. we didn't need to go backwards at all).

mkgmap and .img names

Good evening, I'm currently writing a Python script for mkgmap which works on .osm.bz2 files. It stores the Country Name and Abbreviation for each file, and runs tile-splitter and mkgmap to create a Garmin gmapsupp.img. Now I've got a problem. I would like to skip files that already have been processed to a .img file so that, if you want to create a gmapsupp.img containing Switzerland and Germany and then one containing Switzerland only you don't need to re-process the whole Switzerland file. For that it would simplify my work very much if mkgmap accepted * either multiple files with the same name but different path, like switzerland/00000000.img germany/00000000.img * or files with non-8-digit file names like switzerland/switzerland.img germany/germany.img This should not be a hard thing to do, as far as I see, right? If necessary (like if putting multiple .img files into one gmapsupp.img requires the source .img files to have different file names) mkgmap should be able to rename the .img files internally. When a way is split to avoid exceeding the maximum number of points in a way and the split is done at a previous node, set a flag so that the later code that checks for duplicate node indices doesn't barf because the node index has already been seen before. In fact, in this situation, we can reverse the check such that it requires the node index to have been seen before and it will barf if it hasn't.

Ideas: dead-end-check=3, redundant or impossible turn restrictions

I got two more validation ideas, now that mkgmap is not complaining about roundabouts, oneways or turn restrictions in finland.osm.bz2. Both should be easy to implement. Dead end check 3: Check dead ends in bidirectional streets. Consider the following situation where AB joins the oneway street CB: A============B<----------C Normally, this is legitimate. However, if there is a turn restriction (via=B, from=AB) that prevents the U-turn ABA, AB would be a dead end. Another idea: complain about redundant or impossible turn restrictions. A restriction whose "from" or "to" role is against the direction of a oneway, is impossible. For example, only_straight_on (from=AB, via=B, to=CB). An impossible restriction may also be redundant, meaning that it does not restrict anything: no_u_turn (from=CB, via=B, to=CB). If there are no other ways joining at B, the following would be redundant: only_straight_on (from=CB, via=B, to=BA). I came across some of these situations in a crossing in Vaasa. There were other oneway errors in the area, but these I had to notice myself. JOSM Validator did not complain. Best regards, Marko

Motorway exits and link-pois-to-ways

Mark, When I enable link-ways-to-pois on Finland, I get to see many of these warnings, possibly one for every numbered motorway exit: 2009/12/10 14:56:12 WARNING (StyledConverter): Motorway exit 63 (http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=60.42905&lon=25.77298&zoom=17) has no motorway! (either make the exit share a node with the motorway or specify the motorway ref with a exit:road_ref tag) 2009/12/10 14:56:12 WARNING (StyledConverter): Motorway exit 20 (http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=60.37811&lon=23.80808&zoom=17) has no motorway! (either make the exit share a node with the motorway or specify the motorway ref with a exit:road_ref tag) If I rerun without link-pois-to-ways, these warnings disappear. Can you please have a look at this? Marko

Any way can now be flagged as a "carpool lane" by giving it a carpool tag (e.g. carpool=yes). If the GPS is set to avoid carpool lanes, the way should only be routed through if the vehicle type is emergency or bus. If the GPS is not set to avoid carpool lanes, the way will be used by any vehicle type. Note that the normal access tags (e.g. motorcar=no) cannot be used at the same time as carpool=yes and they will be ignored.
