[PATCH] cope with duplicate city names

Hi, This patch goes on top of the very latest SVN revision (856) and it makes mkgmap cope with duplicate city names. It's often the case that small villages/hamlets have the same name - for example, I live in a hamlet called Chorlton and there's another Chorlton no more than 20 miles away. With this patch, the GPS will know about all of the cities with the same name rather than just getting one of them as was happening before. BTW - gpsmapedit seems to squash duplicates together so it only lists the duplicated city name once in its list of cities. Cheers, Mark

Wrong_route_calculation / strange straight routing lines on GPS

Hi, making my first steps with mkgmap that, although the routing works fine in Mapsource, i get in trouble on my Gps unit Garmin gmap60csx. Very often i got these strange straight magenta routing lines in between normal routing. Meanwhile i figured out that it seems to be that t has something to do with the length of a polyline. I don't know if it is the count of points/nodes of the polyline or still the lenght or both. But comparing the same mp-file once compiled with mkgmap, once with cgpsmapper i see, that cgpsmapper split these long lines during mkgmap leave them like they are. some pictures from gps units of other guys you can see here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Mkgmap/routing#Wrong_route_calculat… Gert

Git clone of mkgmap trunk now available

Hi, I have put a clone of the mkgmap SVN trunk on the git hosting site github.com. This is simply a mirror of the SVN repository and not a fork. The public URL is git://github.com/burto/mkgmap.git You can either clone a copy to your local machine using git or browse the source from github's website. Special codes for labeling Polylines don't work neither in Mapsource nor in GPS(e.g. 60csx)

Dear Sirs, during my first attempts with mkgmap, i observed that mkgmap obviously don't recognized special codes for labels like "~[0x1e]". mkgmap simply compiles it as a string. I ngarmin img this codes e.g. are used for special highway shields or to have some influence from which zoom level a part of the label will be displayed. Also it will beused for the routing preview. Example: Label=SomeInformation~[0x1e]happy street On routing preview it then looks like "Left on happy street" sincerly Gert Münzel

tile splitter and utf-8

Hi, I hope this is the correct mailing list for tile splitter also. I used tile splitter to split a large osm file, and I got several osm files, but the encoding was not utf-8 any more. German umlauts were replaced by question marks. Is this the expected behaviour? thanks, Stefan

Names and relations (multipolygons)

Dear all, is there a possibility, that the polygons (ways) of a relation (multipolygon) "inherit" the name tag of the relation? Background: Sometimes lakes with islands are mapped in OSM as multipolygon relation and the name tag of the lake is attached to the relation only, e.g. <relation id="28547"> <member type="way" ref="26419086" role="outer"/> <member type="way" ref="26419094" role="inner"/> <tag k="name" v="Bagnosee (r)"/> <tag k="type" v="multipolygon"/> </relation> Unfortunately none of the following code lines in my style/relation file worked with mkgmap revision 848 (the lake never had a name): type=multipolygon { apply { add name='${name}' } } type=multipolygon { apply { set name='${name}' } } type=multipolygon { apply { name '${name}' } } Any hints wellcome, thanks! problem loading maps via mapsource

mkgmap-devs, I hope I am in the right list. I am making Philippine garmin maps using mkgmap: http://esambale.wikispaces.com/osmphil_garmin My previous release were OK as per reported by users. But recently, I release a new update using mkgmap routable. The mapsource installer runs OK and the maps can be viewed in mapsource. But users cannot upload the map to the gps using the upload tool in Mapsource.
